Black Adam has found its Hawkman: Aldis Hodge, seen earlier this year in The Invisible Man and soon to appear in Regina King’s excellent One Night in Miami. Hodge is in talks to join the Dwayne Johnson film for director Jaume Collet-SerraBlack Adam is a serving as a spin-off of Shazam!, with the plan being that the character will meet up with Shazam in a future movie.

It’s almost hard to imagine such legends sharing the same space, but of course, they did. And on the night of February 25, 1964, after Ali – who was then still known as Cassius Clay – became the Heavyweight Champion of the World after defeating Sonny Liston, the four men gathered together to celebrate. This real event was the impetus for Kemp Powers‘ play, and now Regina King‘s film One Night in Miami, a fictionalized retelling of that night that feels very real.

Regina King‘s feature directorial debut One Night in Miami had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival this week, and the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with many ready to toss King’s hat into the awards season ring. The film, based on Kemp Powers‘ play, is a “fictionalized account of a 1964 meeting between Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown,” and will also be playing at TIFF this week. Aldis Hodge and Harriet Dyer will join Elisabeth Moss and Storm Reid in the horror film, which is being directed by Leigh Whannell. After Universal failed to get their Dark Universe off the ground, they’re not taking a much different approach, allowing individual stories to stand on their own. The new Invisible Man will be an update of the 1933 film of the same name.

John Glenn might get most of the glory for being the first American to orbit Earth, but behind him were dozens of brilliant scientists, mathematicians, and engineers, and more working to make his journey happen. The new movie Hidden Figures tells the story of three of them.

Taraji P. Henson leads the cast as NASA mathematician  Katherine Johnson, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 for her pioneering work. Octavia Spencer plays fellow NASA mathematician Dorothy Vaughn, and Janelle Monáe rounds out the central trio as NASA engineer Mary Jackson.
