Todd Strauss-Schulson, the director of A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, is pumping out the behind the scenes videos. Recently we posted the half embarrassing, all funny lip dub he and his crew did of a Miley Cyrus song and now he’s released something slightly more serious. I say “slightly” because while the below video was obvious made in service of the film, it’s still absolutely ridiculous.
It’s no spoiler to say Neil Patrick Harris, better known as NPH in the H&K world, has been resurrected in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas. As seen in the trailers, NPH has an elaborate Christmas musical number in the middle of the film and Strauss-Schulson created this pre-viz video storyboard breaking down the scene. Just like yesterday’s video, and the movie itself, the video was done with a sly sense of humor that’s very enjoyable. Read More »
Watching A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, it’s pretty damn obvious everyone making it is having a blast. Whether it’s Neil Patrick Harris acting straight and referencing Starship Troopers to get a girl naked, Danny Trejo wearing an awful sweater, cast members referring to John Cho as “Sulu” or body parts liberally flaunted on screen, the whole thing is just totally over the top and fun. It would have to be for the following video to exist.
What follows is not for the faint of heart. It is, in fact, somewhat disturbing. This exclusive video features a good portion of the crew behind A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas – everyone from an assistant editor, the composer, visual effects supervisors, line producer, full visual and digital effects teams and even director Todd Strauss-Schulson himself – doing a lip dub of Miley Cyrus‘ hit single, Party in the USA. Considering A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas is a 3D, drug-induced Christmas story, it’s obviously going to be crazy. The first trailer bolstered that point as did the first batch of posters. Yahoo has just premiered a new batch of posters and after looking at these, “crazy” doesn’t seem to be a strong enough word to describe what we’re going to see come November 4. Of course, there’s Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) as seen above, but after the jump you’ll see Neil Patrick Harris with a big stick, a stoned Santa Claus, Jesus Christ, a creepy Danny Trejo and much more. It seems like the holidays creep up a bit earlier each year, doesn’t it? I started seeing Thanksgiving cards on drugstore shelves sometime around the middle of August, so now that we’re past Labor Day I suppose it’s about time we started thinking about Christmas. Four new posters have been released for A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, showing off such holiday-appropriate imagery as an apparently dead Santa, Kumar’s gift-wrapped crotch, and… some kind of robot servant holding a stack of French toast that’s caught on fire? I don’t even know. Check them out after the jump.

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
While it’s not beginning to look a lot like Christmas just yet, the trailer for A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas is a great start. The film hits theaters November 4 and once again stars John Cho and Kal Penn as everyone’s favorite hamburger munching potheads. This time around, they’ll get into it with Santa Claus, Jesus and – of course – Neil Patrick Harris, all in 3D. Check out the trailer after the break. Read More »
Two films got release dates today: A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas and Seth MacFarlane‘s directorial debut Ted both have spots on the calendar. But there’s a price (of sorts) as the Ashley Greene thriller The Apparition has been bumped from a fall date back to 2012. Details on all three after the break. Read More »
Thanks be to the almighty press release to inform us of new casting info. Warner Bros. issued a release for the third Harold & Kumar film, which is shooting right now. (Little late on the draw for a ‘begins production’ release, but why quibble over details?)
The first useful tidbit: nowhere do we see the title A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. Instead, the film is referred to as merely the third Harold & Kumar comedy. Right now I wouldn’t be surprised if A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas ends up being the final title, but it’s odd to see it omitted in the press release.
Read the full release after the break, which comes complete with info about casting new folks such as Thomas Lennon and Danny Trejo. Read More »
On the off chance that an appearance by Patton Oswalt isn’t enough to get you pre-rolling for the third Harold & Kumar movie, now there is some confirmation that Neil Patrick Harris will appear in A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, making him three for three in the series. We’ve already had reports that he was in the script, and so figured that this was coming down the pipe. But now it is, like, totally official. Or close to it. Read More »
Production began today in Michigan on the stoner-sequel A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, as screenwriter Jon Hurwitz announced on Twitter.
Also on Twitter, star John Cho revealed that Patton Oswalt was on set “in my vicinity, holding a sketch pad, duct tape, and a reel to reel audio recorder. Eeesh.” Oswalt tweeted in response: “Maybe it’s this Michigan air, but @JohnTheCho is looking huggable, chloroform-able, and bury-able.”
Does this mean that Oswalt makes an appearance in the film or is he just hanging out on set? Oswalt also posted a photo of a crowd of people on the set, which is filming on location in a Mall, looking down from the second and third floors. With that tweet comes the wording: “People watching me get 3 dimensional.” A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas is shooting in 3D, so it sounds to me that he shot an appearance in the film.
FirstShowing also noticed some tweets from Danny Purdue, giving us a better look at the Mall sequence.

A couple months ago it was reported that Universal Pictures was looking to bring the American Pie franchise back to the big screen, but not as a reboot, but a fourth film in the series featuring the cast of characters from the original trilogy. That’s right — Jim, Stiffler, Nadia, Oz, Michelle, and all the gang. The studio was in talks with Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the writers behind the Harold and Kumar films, to script American Pie 4.
Looks like the writing duo not only signed on to script the fourth installment, but also direct. But where does this leave the the third installment of the Harold & Kumar franchise? Find out, after the jump.
