TRON 3

Even though the reception to TRON Legacy was mixed, there’s still a vocal contingent of fans who want to return to the grid with yet another sequel in the Disney sci-fi franchise. Even though development on a third movie has been stagnant, we recently learned there was a TRON series in development for Disney+, but it was scrapped before it was ever announced. Many are wondering if TRON has been shut down for good, but TRON Legacy director Joseph Kosinski isn’t so hopeless. Read More »

TRON Legacy LEGO Light Cycle

TRON Legacy hit theaters in 2010, and the fact that the movie exists at all is kind of a miracle. It came 28 years after the original TRON, and it was a project that had been kicked around Disney for a long time. Somehow, the demand of fans led to TRON Legacy actually being made, and it took us back to the world of The Grid, albeit in a much more sleek and technologically sophisticated fashion than the early computer animation of the 1980s original allowed.

However, TRON Legacy didn’t exactly land with as big of a splash as Disney might have hoped. Sure, the movie made over $400 million worldwide, but that was on a budget of $170 million, and that’s probably not including the marketing costs. The movie also only has a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and only 63% from the audience ratings. That made the likelihood of seeing TRON 3 come to fruition that much more unlikely, but co-producer Justin Springer hasn’t given up hope yet.

TRON 3

Last summer, fans of TRON and the follow-up TRON Legacy were dealt a tough blow when the developing TRON 3 was declared dead at Walt Disney Pictures. The sequel was said to be called TRON: Ascension with director Joseph Kosinski back behind the camera and Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde reprising their roles as Sam Flynn and Quora. Thousands of fans signed a petition in an attempt to get Disney to reconsider, but it doesn’t appear to have done any good. However, that doesn’t mean TRON 3 is out of the realm of possibility, at least according to one of the film’s producers.
