This past summer, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales came and went without much pomp and circumstance. The sequel only has 30% at Rotten Tomatoes, and while it has a 4.7 rating from critics (which is the more important number at the review aggregator website), that’s still not a warm reception. So will we be seeing any more Pirates of the Caribbean movies?
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is putting a positive spin on the box office for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which performed nearly $70 million under the last film at the domestic box office, and the fourth film was already $68 million behind the previous sequel. But despite his upbeat attitude about the sequel’s performance, it sounds like Walt Disney Pictures will have to wait to see how Dead Men Tell No Tales does on home video before they proceed with a new adventure. It’s been six years since the last sequel in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise arrived, and it wasn’t exactly a shining example of an entertaining high seas adventure. In fact, I couldn’t even tell you what happened in that movie. That’s how memorable On Stranger Tides was when it arrived around this same time in 2011.
Now we have Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales arriving in theaters this weekend. How did it turn out? Is it closer to capturing what made the first installment of the franchise so great, or does the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow fall in line with the lackluster sequels that followed? The /Film crew sounds off with their own thoughts below, and then you can let us know what you think in the comments. Read More »
The fifth entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise hits theaters this weekend, and while it doesn’t look to be quite as successful as the previous entries in the adventure film series, it will still easily take the weekend with as much as $80 million projected for the extended Memorial Day weekend debut.
There has been some chatter as to whether or not Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales would be the last movie in the franchise, bringing the series to an end. But in order to talk about the possible continuance of the franchise, we must venture into a sea of spoilers that includes talking about the Pirates 5 credits scene that appears at the end. So if you haven’t seen Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, don’t read after the jump. Read More »
There hasn’t been enough inebriated action coming from Walt Disney Pictures, but that will change soon now that a new Pirates of the Caribbean sequel is arriving in theaters this summer.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales brings back Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow for another round of high seas adventure and drunken antics. In a batch of new clips and TV spots from the sequel, Jack Sparrow gets in trouble with the law yet again, and he’s also being pursued by a cursed pirate hunter named Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem). Plus, he finds himself accompanied by Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites) the offspring of his previous partner in piracy, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom).

We’ve known since last year that Pirates of the Caribbean was bringing another legendary rock star into the high seas franchise after having Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards play Jack Sparrow’s father previously. This time, it was the British imported band The Beatles having one of their members turned into a pirate, and now we get to see what he looks like.
Paul McCartney took to Twitter this weekend to reveal a first look at his character in the form of a character poster for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. If you were looking forward to Paul McCartney wearing eyeliner, you will not be disappointed.

The next chapter of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise doesn’t arrive until the end of May, but Disney is making a big marketing push for the high seas adventure. The Final Four will have the eyes of millions of sports fans this weekend, so that means we get a new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales TV spot. This one gives us just a little extra snippet of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, who now appears to be among a band of cursed pirates, meeting Brenton Thwaites as his son, Henry Turner. However, there is surprisingly little Johnny Depp, which hopefully means the series goes back to being more of a proper ensemble adventure.

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Even though the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise officially wore out its welcome for me with the abysmal sequel On Stranger Tides, there are still plenty of fans who are excited to see what the next installment of the franchise has to offer. A new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales featurette gives us a good idea of the action in store as it takes us behind the scenes of the next adventure from Kon-Tiki directing duo Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning.

Production on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth film in the multi-billion dollar franchise, has been done for awhile now. But it appears there may be one more addition to the cast that we hadn’t heard about, someone from one of the previous films in the franchise who will be brought back alongside other returning cast members like Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner.
However, revealing who this returning cast member might be is a bit of a spoiler for those wanting to stay in the dark regarding any surprises, so you’ll have to find out who it is after the jump. Read More »
