'Pirates Of The Caribbean 5': Prologue With 'Guardians Of The Galaxy 2'? International Trailer Spoils Big Surprise
The cross-pollination of the Disney empire will be in full effect, with a five-minute preview of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales possibly getting attached to screenings of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when it opens in May.
And while we're here, let's also watch the new international trailer, which reveals a huge surprise from the movie.
Trailer Track is reporting that the BBFC, the U.K.'s movie rating board, have rated a five-minute piece of footage from the fifth installment of Pirates of the Carribean, titled "Trailer Y."
Trailer Track suggests that "Trailer Y" could be additional movie footage or an extended scene from Dead Men Tell No Tales that could play in front of select U.K. screenings of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, most likely in 3D or IMAX screenings. Why are we guessing that this scene is the prologue to Pirates 5? FirstShowing's Alex Billington reported that he saw "a long escape scene (with Jack)" from Pirates of the Caribbean when he attended a press screening for Guardians.
No news yet on whether this footage would play in front of U.S. showings of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but with the superhero sequel premiering in the U.K. first — on April 28, a week before the U.S. premiere on May 5 — it's a possibility.
A Familiar Face in the International Pirates Trailer
Wasn't Pirate of the Caribbean supposed to end two movies ago? With only Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow returning, and with the unproven Brenton Thwaites getting shoehorned into another blockbuster as the next potential bland male lead, it feels like Disney is keeping this franchise alive for longer than it's worth. But early buzz around the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean is surprisingly positive, with critics saying it manages to capture the magic of the original film.
And the new international trailer for Dead Men Tell No Tales show that Depp is not the only returning face to the franchise.
Yes, that's Keira Knightley, returning to the franchise and the corset that made her famous. We only see a brief shot of Elizabeth Swann, the governor's daughter and wife of the captain of The Flying Dutchman, and we don't know what part she'll play in the newest film. Along with Knightley, we know that Orlando Bloom's Will Turner will make a return as well. It's promising to see the non-Depp cornerstones of the Pirates series back in action again.

The film sails into theaters May 26.
