The Lion King Beyonce Song

Normally, when Donald Glover is cast in a movie, he’s the only actor who also happens to be a Grammy-winning recording artist. But when it comes to Disney’s remake of The Lion King, that isn’t the case. Global music superstar and 23-time Grammy winner Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has a role in The Lion King remake as the adult voice of Simba’s best friend, Nala. But you don’t get Beyoncé in your movie and just utilize her voice for acting, especially when you’re Disney and you’ve got money to throw around. Disney had Beyoncé create an original song for The Lion King soundtrack called “Spirit,” and you can listen to it right now.

But that’s not all. This song is not only in the movie, it’s the first track from an entire album inspired by The Lion King with songs featuring Beyoncé and other global recording artists creating more original music steeped in the sounds of Africa.

The Lion King TV Spot

The Lion King is poised to help Disney rule the summer box office all over again when it arrives next month. While the visuals have been nothing short of stunning, especially with it comes to the photorealistic visual effects used to bring the animals to life, we’ve yet to really see the animals talk to each other, which has been a little worriseome. But that changes today.

The Lion King TV spot lets us see Mufasa (James Earl Jones) speaking to a young Simba. And on top of that, we get to hear a new rendition of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” sung by Donald Glover and Beyoncé Knowles Carter, the voices of the adult Simba and his childhood friend Nala. Read More »

The Lion King TV spot

“The king has returned.” That’s one of Rafiki’s lines from the original Walt Disney Animation version of The Lion King, but I suspect many Beyonce fans will be lining up for Jon Favreau‘s not-quite-live-action, not-quite-animated remake to hear their queen lend her voice to Nala, the film’s female lead.

Beyonce has released a new TV spot for the movie through her YouTube channel, and in addition to showing off some new footage from the film (including the climactic fight), it’s also our first opportunity to hear her in-character as Nala.

Family Feud music video

We recently wrote about Never Let Me Go director Mark Romanek’s foray back into the world of music videos with his video for Justin Timberlake’s new single “Filthy,” but he’s not alone: Selma and A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay has a new music video of her own, featuring none other than Jay-Z and Beyonce.

As you might expect from the heavyweight talent involved, “Family Feud” (from Jay-Z’s recent 4:44 album) isn’t just any old music video. It’s a nearly eight-minute short film that spans hundreds of years and features performances from actors like Michael B. Jordan, Thandie Newton, Trevante Rhodes, Brie Larson, Rashida Jones, Constance Wu, and many more. Oh yeah, and Jay and Bey sing a song together at some point, too.
