Blindspotting was one of the acclaimed premieres to come out of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Featuring Hamilton star Daveed Diggs in the lead role, the film dealt with some heavy themes, including systemic racism and police brutality, but it did it with some sharp satirical humor and hip-hop musical sequences. The film had a style all its own, and now a Blindspotting TV series will continue in the same vein, but now the main character will be one of the supporting players of the original movie.

The long-delayed Snowpiercer series is finally arriving at TNT this month, and one final trailer has arrived for the show inspired by Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 adaptation of Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette’s graphic novel Le Transperceneige.
Snowpiercer stars Daveed Diggs (Blindspotting) and Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind) as passengers on a train that runs in perpetual motion around a world that has become a frozen wasteland. The train has a social class hierarchy within, which makes for plenty of tension. Though there’s some chatter of a revolution forming at the train where the lower-class passengers reside, the primary focus of this new series isDaveed Diggs’ character solving a murder. The Office and Jack Ryan star John Krasinski recently started passing some of his time in self-quarantine by hosting a web series called Some Good News. Recorded from the home office of the A Quiet Place director/star, the series highlights some uplifting stories from around the web to help drown out the hellish nightmare of news from our government and the coronavirus pandemic that is claiming lives everyday.
The first episode of Some Good News brought the wonderful surprise of The Office star Steve Carell appearing on the show for a chat, just in time for the NBC workplace comedy’s 15th anniversary. But an even more impressive reunion comes in this week’s second episode as John Krasinski assembled the entire original cast of the Broadway music Hamilton and had them perform a musical number on the video conference service Zoom, all for a little girl who missed the show due to coronavirus cancellations. TNT’s Snowpiercer has had a rough ride to the small screen — almost as rough as the perpetual train ride at the center of post-apocalyptic sci-fi series based on Bong Joon-ho’s feature film and Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette’s graphic novel. First it lost its showrunner, then it lost the director of its pilot. Then it bounced back and forth between TNT and TBS before finally making its way back to TNT. Now, after five years of derailments and unexpected stalls, Snowpiercer has a premiere date. Watch the new Snowpiercer trailer to find out when this show is finally coming to TV.

Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid already has Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda on board as a producer and writer of new songs, but now Miranda will be writing for one of his original Hamilton cast members. Daveed Diggs, who broke out in the dual roles of Thomas Jefferson/Marquis de Lafayette in Miranda’s mega-hit Broadway musical, has been cast as Sebastian in the new remake. I’m guessing “Under the Sea” is going to involve a rap breakdown in this version.
