Gotti Honest Trailer

There have been some truly great mob movies over the years like The Godfather, GoodFellas, Casino, A Bronx Tale, and Road to Perdition. But we’re here to talk about a movie that will remind you how difficult it is to make a truly great movie about the mafia without coming off like a tired cliche full of comically Italian names, ludicrous accents, and an Olive Garden menu.

Gotti just might be the worst movie of the year, which is saying something when movies like Show Dogs and Hurricane Heist also came out this year. But at least those movies know exactly what they are. Meanwhile, John Travolta comes through with flying colors in all the wrong ways, delivering a performance that can best be described as a man who fell into a Martin Scorsese spoof but takes it extremely seriously. See the Gotti Honest Trailer to see what we’re dealing with here. Read More »

gotti rotten tomatoes user reviews

Following a dismal critical reception and an even more dismal box office performance, Gotti has released a new ad getting to the alleged heart of the problem: the critics. The bizarre ad for John Travolta’s mob movie attacks the critics that tore down Gotti while boasting about the rave “user” reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. But there’s something fishy about those Gotti Rotten Tomatoes user reviews that the marketing is so proud of.

moviepass gotti

MoviePass‘s business strategy continues to confound all of us. The ticket-buying service’s sustainability has always been in question since it dropped its prices to the popular $10 a month, but MoviePass was not content to simply disrupt the moviegoing industry. It had to get behind the scenes as well. Cue the perplexing venture into distribution, of which MoviePass has seen some success and some failures. And the one big, public failure with the meager box office returns of Gotti, in particular, maybe even worse for MoviePass than we realized.

Gotti trailer

John Travolta (Pulp Fiction, American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson) has been wanting to star in a movie about 1980s New York City crime boss John “The Teflon Don” Gotti since 2011, and after going through multiple iterations and spending years in development hell, the film is finally ready. Here, at long last, is the first trailer for Gotti, which ended up being directed by Kevin Connolly: yep, the guy who played “E” on HBO’s Entourage. And weirdly, this movie seems like a fake film you’d see in the background of an Entourage episode.

Cool Posts From Around the Web:

The film Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father has had a difficult path from development to screen. In fact, it looks like the project has fully stalled out before cameras were even able to roll.

While Barry Levinson came on board a few months ago (replacing Nick Cassavetes) and a cast had started to shape up with deals for John Travolta, Al Pacino, Ben Foster, Kelly Preston and possibly Joe Pesci, the time has come when some of those people were meant to be paid. And if reports are correct, there is no money to pay them. As a result, the movie has been put on hold. It almost certainly won’t make a planned January start date, but we don’t know if the project will die altogether. Read More »
