bird box challenge

Netflix famously canceled Daredevil, the Marvel series about a blind superhero. But they went ahead and produced the adaptation of Josh Malerman’s novel Bird Box. Apparently it had a better chance of survival for those without the ability to see. The result was a more grisly, less subtle, subpar retread of A Quiet Place, and Honest Trailers couldn’t resist taking some jabs at the movie, even though it didn’t get a traditional home video release. bird box creature

In Netflix’s Bird Box, Sandra Bullock and the rest of the population are terrorized by inhuman beings that can take the shape of an individual’s worst fear. The only way to survive is to make sure you never make eye contact with them – and now that I’ve actually seen what a scrapped version of this Bird Box creature looks like, I’m the one who’s wishing I had a blindfold. Take a look at the photos of the creature below, which Bullock previously described as a “long fat baby.” Read More »

bird box challenge

Bird Box has become something of a pop culture phenomenon, turning into one of Netflix’s most-watched original movies. It’s also inspiring something called the Bird Box Challenge, in which people are acting like total idiots. The challenge involves putting on a blindfold, much like the characters in the movie, and staggering around outside. This is all fun and games…until someone gets hurt. As a result, Netflix is begging you: please don’t get hurt and/or die while running around with a blindfold on.

bird box cameo

Bird Box is Netflix’s latest sensation, purportedly becoming the streaming giant’s best-performing original film ever. So it doesn’t need any reality show stars to up its profile — the movie already stars acting heavyweights Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson, John Malkovich, and Trevante Rhodes. But in a  blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance, Nev Schulman, host of the MTV series Catfish, makes a surprise appearance in the apocalyptic horror film. While this Bird Box cameo may have come about by accident, it provides a great Easter egg for fans of both Bird Box and the MTV reality show Catfish.

bird box viewers

Netflix doesn’t usually like to give away their statistics, but in the case of Bird Box, they’re making an exception. According to the streaming giant itself, Bird Box viewers have totaled more than 45 million so far, giving the Sandra Bullock horror flick the “best first 7 days ever for a Netflix film.” That’s both surprising, and impressive. Hopefully Netflix will reward the birds in the box with some birdseed.

bird box deleted scene

The new Netflix horror movie Bird Box never shows us the terrifying creatures that are picking-off human beings, and that’s a smart move. By keeping these malevolent beings off-screen, we’re free to let our imaginations run wild. But at one point the movie could’ve been much different. According to star Sandra Bullock, there’s a Bird Box deleted scene that actually shows us one of the creatures, revealing it to be a “long fat baby.” With that in mind, it’s probably for the best that they left this scene out.
