Netflix has finally, officially confirmed what we already suspected: The Punisher will hit the streaming service next year, making 2017 the first time Netflix will have three new Marvel seasons in a single year.
And to celebrate that big news, they’ve also just dropped a bunch of casting announcements. Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson have all climbed aboard the new series. Frank Castle is getting some company. As shooting gets underway in New York, Netflix’s The Punisher has added a few more names to its roster. Ebon Moss-Bachrach (HBO’s Girls) and Amber Rose Revah (Son of God) have joined Jon Bernthal the Marvel spinoff series, while new details have emerged on the character played by Ben Barnes (HBO’s Westworld). In addition, set photos reveal a certain Daredevil character will return for The Punisher.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with exciting possibilities. Part of the enormous fun in The Avengers films or Captain America: Civil War is seeing these heroes interact with each other, and seeing how their personalities clash in those interchanges. But if you ask Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt, the character he would be most interested in seeing Star-Lord meeting on the big screen would have to be The Punisher.

Even before the Punisher made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the second season of Daredevil, rumors abounded about the possibility of a Punisher spinoff. He’s a popular character to begin with, after all, and Jon Bernthal couldn’t be a better choice to play him. Then the character actually appeared on the show, and proved to be everything fans had hoped for. The calls for a Punisher spinoff only got louder. And now, Marvel is finally ready to make its move.
A Punisher spinoff has reportedly been ordered by Marvel, with Bernthal set to return as the vigilante character. Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner. Read More »

The first season of Daredevil had a damn good villain in Wilson Fisk — one of the best in the MCU, along with Loki and Kilgrave. So how does the show top that in season 2? Well, by bringing on not one but two classic figures to antagonize our poor beleaguered devil of Hell’s Kitchen: a hardcore vigilante known as the Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, and a dangerous former flame called Elektra, played by Elodie Yung.
The final trailer for Daredevil season 2 debuted earlier this week, but today Netflix served up another little taste of the trials and tribulations to come in the form of a new featurette. Netflix had two Marvel panels for the Television Critics Association, one for Jessica Jones and another for Daredevil. In between panels, Marvel Television Head Jeph Loeb spoke with reporters about the shows. Season two of Daredevil introduces Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) and there is already talk of Bernthal getting his own The Punisher series. There is still a second season of Jessica Jones and launches of Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders on the plate, but Loeb is open to spinning off Castle.
