The first season finale of Snowpiercer just aired last night on TNT. The television adaptation of the Titan Comics title takes place eight years before the feature film adaptation from director Bong Joon-ho, so there are a lot of gaps to fill in when it comes to the overall narrative of the post-apocalyptic landscape itself. Last night’s finale brought a number of twists and turns, but the biggest made way for the introduction of Sean Bean as a character who will have a major presence in the second season.
However, learning about his character will require spoilers for the first season. Read More »
Snowpiercer finally premiered on May 17 after a very long development. Scott Derrickson directed a pilot for creator Josh Friedman, but TNT asked for revisions, neither returned. Graeme Manson redeveloped the series based on Bong Joon-Ho’s 2013 film, which was itself based on a French graphic novel.
The plot of the series will be familiar to anyone who saw the film. After an experiment to combat global warming inadvertently freezes the earth, the last survivors of humanity live on the Snowpiercer train. It continuously revolves round the earth, with the people inside divided into a caste system, with the wealthy at the front and the poor in the tail. In the series, Snowpiercer engineer Melanie Cavill asks tailee Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) to help her solve a murder in return for some privileges.
Manson spoke with /Film by phone this week ahead of the next episode of the series, which airs this Sunday.

The long-delayed Snowpiercer series is finally arriving at TNT this month, and one final trailer has arrived for the show inspired by Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 adaptation of Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette’s graphic novel Le Transperceneige.
Snowpiercer stars Daveed Diggs (Blindspotting) and Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind) as passengers on a train that runs in perpetual motion around a world that has become a frozen wasteland. The train has a social class hierarchy within, which makes for plenty of tension. Though there’s some chatter of a revolution forming at the train where the lower-class passengers reside, the primary focus of this new series isDaveed Diggs’ character solving a murder. So it’s Murder on the Apocalypse Express. Read More »
TNT’s Snowpiercer series has been torturously making its way to the small screen for five years, barreling through losing its original showrunner, the director of its pilot, and bouncing across networks like a pinball. So you’d be forgiven if, among all of that chaos, you completely forgot that this show is not a remake of Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 movie, but is in fact set in the same universe as that film. (Hopefully you’ll extend me the same forgiveness, because this feels like brand new information to me.)
But the film and TV projects aren’t the only stories in the Snowpiercer universe. Titan Comics has unveiled an official Snowpiercer timeline which lays out where the film and TV show fall in the overall story, and where they slot in with the events of the multiple comics that also take place in this universe. Check it out below. Read More »
It’s possible no other TV production has had as many troubles and delays on the road to the small screen than Snowpiercer, TNT’s upcoming adaptation of the acclaimed Bong Joon-ho 2013 film and Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette’s graphic novel Le Transperceneige. Snowpiercer has weathered showrunner departures, network changes, and director exits. But finally, after many years of behind-the-scenes difficulties, Snowpiercer will hit our TV screens. And TNT is reminding us of that fact with a new Snowpiercer trailer, which confirms that the sci-fi series is — against all odds — still on track to premiere this May.

TNT’s Snowpiercer has had a rough ride to the small screen — almost as rough as the perpetual train ride at the center of post-apocalyptic sci-fi series based on Bong Joon-ho’s feature film and Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette’s graphic novel. First it lost its showrunner, then it lost the director of its pilot. Then it bounced back and forth between TNT and TBS before finally making its way back to TNT. Now, after five years of derailments and unexpected stalls, Snowpiercer has a premiere date. Watch the new Snowpiercer trailer to find out when this show is finally coming to TV.

When sci-fi fans heard that a Snowpiercer TV series was being developed, the main reaction was confusion. How could a TV show improve upon Bong Joon-Ho’s riveting, close-ended 2013 movie? By setting the TV series a few years earlier for one — the TNT series, which stars Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly, will take place seven years after the world-ending “freeze” versus the film’s 15 years — and by drawing inspiration from the graphic novel upon which the film is based.
The 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige will play as much a part in building the world of the TV series as Bong’s film, showrunner and executive producer Graeme Manson said at the Snowpiercer New York Comic-Con 2019 panel on Saturday. The graphic novel will play an inspiration in the most literal sense, as we saw in the gorgeous animated opening sequence released by TNT today, and in the cerebral sense. “The novels are incredibly heady,” Manson said.

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
While most may be familiar with the Bong Joon-Ho film that earned critical acclaim and helped spread the Korean auteur’s name in the States, many probably weren’t aware that Snowpiercer is based on the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige. Bong’s film took liberties with the graphic novel upon which it was based, but the upcoming dystopian sci-fi series starring Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connolly will hew a little closer to it. Quite literally, as the new animated Snowpiercer teaser shows us. The minute-long teaser shows the opening of the first episode, illustrated in a style inspired by the art of the graphic novel. Watch the Snowpiercer teaser below.
