Groundhog Day has become the anchor of movies with a time loop at the center of the narrative. It was the first film to bring the concept to mainstream movies, and since then we’ve seen it employed in a variety of genres with films like Run Lola Run, Primer, Deja Vu, Source Code, Edge of Tomorrow, and most recently, Before I Fall. Now we’re circling back to a comedic approach with a new title coming to Netflix later this year.
Naked stars Marlon Wayans as Rob Anderson, a man who should have been taking care of all the important things a groom has to do before getting married, like writing his vows. Instead, Rob went out to party and wakes up the next morning naked in a hotel elevator with one hour to get to his wedding. As you’ve surmised, even after the day plays out, Rob keeps waking up naked in that elevator.

Even though most of us have chosen to forget it, the Paranormal Activity spoof A Haunted House starring Marlon Wayans actually came out earlier this year. Not only that, it grossed $60 million worldwide against a budget of $2.5 million, making it a bonafide hit. Who knew?
The studio knew, that’s who, and they’ve already shot a follow up. A Haunted House 2 directed by Michael Tiddes is scheduled for release March 28, 2014 and a teaser trailer is now out. The plot is genius. Wayans’ character moves out of his one haunted house to…wait for it…another haunted house! Hilarity ensues.

Along with his brother Shawn, Marlon Wayans left the Scary Movie franchise after the first two movies, but that’s not stopping him from continuing to parody horror tropes. As Scary Movie 5 eagerly rips into Black Swan — only two years after everyone else did — Wayans is taking on the more relevant Paranormal Activity series.
Directed by Michael Tiddes, A Haunted House stars Wayans and Essence Atkins as a couple who move into their dream house but soon find themselves plagued by supernatural ills. The theatrical trailer was nothing short of terrible, but the new red-band version seems to benefit from the added vulgarity. Nick Swardson, Cedric the Entertainer, and David Koechner also star. Twelve years ago, the Wayans Brothers started a new chapter in comedy history with their spoof comedy Scary Movie. Poking fun at the horror films of the day, the film was a massive success. It spawned three sequels (with a fourth on the way) and influenced innumerable, lesser quality ripoffs. Since then, though, the horror genre has changed. Things are much more centered on found-footage concepts. So Marlon Wayans has packed up his family legacy and created A Haunted House, a hard-R rated comedy spoof of Paranormal Activity.
First time filmmaker Michael Tiddes is directing with Wayans producing and co-starring alongside Nick Swardson, Cedric the Entertainner, David Koechner, Essence Atkins and others. It’ll be released on January 11 and you can watch the first trailer after the jump. Be warned though. It looks really terrible. Read More »
