Earlier this year, fans of Kevin Smith‘s series of films known as the View Askewniverse were delivered some sad news when they learned that both Clerks 3 and Mallrats 2 (which was meant to be turned into a TV series), were both dead. However, the bad news did come with some good as the writer/director also announced that Miramax was going to let him reach back into his filmography to reboot one of his silliest comedies.
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will give the titular stoners played by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith himself a chance to come back to the big screen to stop a reboot of Bluntman & Chronic, the superhero comic inspired by the characters, from being made. And 10 lucky fans will be closer to the production than any of us, thanks to Kevin Smith’s Willy Wonka inspired golden ticket promotion that he announced yesterday.

Over the past few years, Kevin Smith has branched out beyond what came to be known as his View Askewniverse film roster to try his hand at some different kinds of movies. There was the dark thriller Red State; the creepy thriller Tusk; and the hodgepodge of Clerks, Canada, and Gremlins with Nazi sausages that was Yoga Hosers. Plus we’re still supposed to get Moose Jaws as the third film in what Kevin Smith calls his True North Trilogy.
More recently, Kevin Smith was looking to go back to the well with Clerks III and Mallrats 2 (the latter of which was supposed to be turned into a TV series instead), but it appears both projects have hit rather big snags. That’s not stopping Kevin Smith from being just like the rest of Hollywood by cashing in on any nostalgia that fans may have for his movies, because now he’s working on something called Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. You can find out all the details after the jump. Read More »
