Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes Hand and Footprint Ceremony

This week, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot hit theaters for a limited engagement thanks to Fathom Events (read our review here), but it will also be touring the country for the next few months as part of the official Reboot Roadshow with Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith accompanying the movie. But before that, the on-screen duo best known as Jay and Silent Bob were cemented in Hollywood history with the famous TCL Chinese Theatres ceremony hand and footprint ceremony, and you can watch the entire presentation below. Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Review

Kevin Smith burst onto the filmmaking scene in 1994 with the Sundance-selected indie comedy Clerks. No one knew that this film was just the beginning of what would become the View Askewniverse, an interconnected universe where nearly all of Kevin Smith’s movies (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) would exist, allowing for the kind of references and characters crossovers that are now a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It’s been over a decade since Kevin Smith got to play in his cinematic world, both as a filmmaker and as the second half of the stoner duo known as Jay and Silent Bob. But now he’s returned, both in front of the camera and behind it, with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. The Kevin Smith many people fell in love with in high school has mostly returned to form with this latest installment of the View Askewniverse. The movie is a satisfying, nostalgic sequel/reboot that delivers more heart than you might expect (and maybe more than it needs), but it can be a bit clumsy in its execution and there are many jokes that fall flat. Most importantly though, it’s the kind of movie Jay and Silent Bob fans were hoping for. Read More »

Jay and SIlent Bob Reboot Clips

Tuesday, October 15 brings Jay and Silent Bob Reboot to theaters across the country for one night only (unless you want to catch it in a double feature with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in theaters on Thursday, October 17). If you can’t make it out to theater on either of those day, and you missed out on tickets for the Reboot Roadshow, there are some Jay and Silent Bob Reboot clips that can hold you over until the movie eventually becomes available on home video.

Brodie’s Secret Stash

Jason Lee is one of the many returning cast members from previous Kevin Smith movies. In this new clip from Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, his character Brodie Bruce explains what a reboot is to Jay and Silent Bob, essentially recreating the scene where Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck, who will also be appearing in this movie) explained the concept of the internet to the clueless duo. There’s obviously some meta comedy at play here, and it wouldn’t be a Kevin Smith movie without a Star Wars reference. But were you anticipating a reference to Jason Lee’s work in the Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel?

This clip makes me miss seeing Jason Lee in movies and TV shows. But I’m sure he’s enjoying being mostly retired, with the exception of doing voiceover for IHOP commercials. Maybe he’ll make a return after appearing in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Or maybe he just cashed his motherfuckin’ movie check and went back home.

IN 5 DAYS, marvel at the invincible IRON BOB when @jayandsilentbob Reboot in a theater near you! (Go to the @fathomevents or the @cineplexmovies for details and theaters!) Making movies has always been a bit about wish fulfillment for me – so as far back as when Silent Bob pulled a Batman off the elevator in #mallrats, I’ve added bits into my flicks that allow me to be my heroes for a moment in a movie. Considering I Bluntsaber battled the one and only @hamillhimself in #jayandsilentbobstrikeback, it’s understandable that I’d wanna climb inside a Mark I knockoff suit (built by @rlkurtzman) and be Tony Stark in #JayAndSilentBobReboot! And in my role as Bluntman V Chronic movie director Kevin Smith, I also get to invoke @marvel while paraphrasing one of my favorite lines from Strike Back! Check us out next week Tuesday and Thursday in the U.S. and Tuesday and Friday in Canada! #KevinSmith #JasonMewes #sabanfilms #fathomevents #cineplexevents

Invincible Iron Bob

This second clip appears to take place at Chronic-Con, the convention dedicated to Bluntman and Chronic. We’re not sure what happens leading up to this moment, but Silent Bob busts through one of the convention doors in a knockoff of the Mark I Iron Man suit from the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie in 2008. Making another reference to a line from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, none other than Kevin Smith appears as himself (the director of the Bluntman v Chronic movie) saying, “Ohhh, Marvel gonna sue somebody.”

The more I see of this movie, no matter how much Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes have aged, and no matter how dated the comedy seems to be in it, I’m still looking forwarding to giving it a whirl. As someone who became a big Kevin Smith fan in high school, I still like seeing him play with his old characters. And since pretty much all of them are coming back for this one, it should be a lot of fun. If you need any more convincing, here’s a new promo spot:

Clerks 2 - Jay and Silent Bob Weed Strains

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot isn’t getting a traditional theatrical release like its predecessor, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Instead, the comedy sequel from writer/director Kevin Smith will be released as a Fathom Event on both October 15 and October 17, 2019. If you can’t make it to the theater on either of those days, you might try your hand at attending one of the many Reboot Roadshow dates that will be hosted all over the United States. And since the movie is getting an unconventional release, it makes sense that the marketing leading up to the event is just as unique.

If you’re looking to get your hands on a nickel bag of weed before you take in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, you might be interested in picking it up from the duo that inspired Bluntman and Chronic themselves. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes will be selling three new strains of weed inspired by Jay and Silent Bob at the Herbarium in Hollywood, California. And after you get your smoke on, you might want to take a deep dive into the making of Kevin Smith’s totally weird horror movie Tusk. Read More »

Casting Val Kilmer and Melissa Benoist in a Batman v. Superman satire may prove to be a stroke of genius for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot director Kevin Smith, who brings back his beloved stoner duo for another big-screen adventure. This time, they’re setting out to stop another film adaptation of the comic book that they inspired, Bluntman and Chronic. But in the new Jay and Silent Bob Reboot clip, the pair end up being more flattered by the portrayal of the Supergirl star as a female version of the stoner superhero Chronic, fighting Kilmer’s Bluntman. Also Tommy Chong is there. Watch the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot clip below.

Matt Damon is reprising his role as Loki — no, not that one. Though the Good Will Hunting actor’s memorable turn as a theatrical version of Loki in Thor: Ragnarok is fresh in people’s minds, Damon had actually played another character named Loki 20 years ago. Now, Damon will be making a cameo as Dogma‘s Loki in Smith’s upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
