2017 TBD: Madre

“Madre follows the story of Diana Prieto (Ramirez), a four months pregnant wife and mother of Martin (Matías), who is severely autistic autism and whose special needs have become overwhelming for her. After a chance encounter with Luz (Aida), a gifted Filipino caretaker, Diana regains some sanity in her life as Martin begins to adapt and communicate quickly under the supervision of Luz. However, as he has only been taught to communicate in Filipino, Diana begins to suspect that Luz is using the language barrier to turn Martin against her and into something much more sinister.”

Madre is directed by Aaron Burns (Knock, Knock, Green Inferno), who also wrote the original screenplay, and stars Chilean actress Daniela Ramírez (La Poseída, Los Archivos del Cardenal), Cristobal Tapia Montt (The Stranger), Matías Bassi (Pulseras Rojas) and Aida Jabolin. The film is produced by Nicolás López and Miguel Asensio Llamas.  The film premiered at the 2017 SXSW Film festival.

Executive Producers / Directors, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos are in production on new episodes of the Emmy-nominated Making a Murderer.

“The new installments will take fans of the acclaimed documentary series back inside the story of convicted murderer Steven Avery, and his co-defendant, Brendan Dassey, as their respective investigative and legal teams challenge their convictions and the State fights to have the convictions and life sentences upheld. This next chapter will provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as, the emotional toll the process takes on all involved. The episodes will offer exclusive access to Avery’s new lawyer Kathleen Zellner and Dassey’s legal team, led by Laura Nirider and Steve Drizin, as well as intimate access to the families and characters close to the case.”

2017 TBD: Marvel’s Defenders Season 1

Marvel’s The Defenders is developed for Netflix by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. The limited series stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, all reprising their roles from their individual series. Élodie Yung also stars as Elektra Natchios, reprising the role from Marvel’s Daredevil. The Defenders will consist of eight episodes.

2017 TBD: Marvel’s The Punisher Season 1

Jon Bernthal reprises his role from Marvel’s Daredevil. Joining him are Daniel Webber as Lewis Walcott, a young veteran who has had a difficult time re-assimilating into civilian society, Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Frank Castle’s and one of the few people who knows he is alive, Paul Schulze as Rawlins, a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle, Jaime Ray Newman as Sarah Lieberman, Micro’s wife (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) whose marriage has made her life far more complicated, and Michael Nathanson as Sam Stein, a Homeland agent who is challenged by his partnership with Dinah (Amber Rose Revah). Deborah Ann Woll will reprise her role as Karen Page.

Steve Lightfoot (“Hannibal”) will write the series’ first two episodes in addition to serving as showrunner and Executive Producer. Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” and “Marvel’s Luke Cage”) will also serve as Executive Producer along with Jeph Loeb  (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” and “Marvel’s Luke Cage”), Marvel’s Head of Television.

Aziz Ansari in Master of None

2017 TBD: Master of None Season 2

Best known for his role on the award-winning series Parks and Recreation, comedian Aziz Ansari stars, writes, and directs Master of None, a new Netflix original comedy series loosely based on his own life experiences.

“Master of None follows the personal and professional lives of Dev, a 30-year-old actor in New York who has trouble deciding what he wants to eat, much less the pathway for the rest of his life. Ambitious, funny, cinematic, and both sweeping in scope and intensely personal, Dev’s story takes him through subjects as diverse as the plight of the elderly, the immigrant experience, and how to find the most delicious pasta for dinner.”

The show was created by Ansari and Parks and Recreation writer Alan Yang. The series is executive produced by Aziz Ansari, Alan Yang, Michael Schur, Dave Becky, and David Miner.

“Based on the novel written by Kent Haruf and adapted for the screen by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (The Fault in Our Stars), Our Souls at Night is set in Colorado and begins when Addie Moore (Jane Fonda) pays an unexpected visit to a neighbor, Louis Waters (Robert Redford). Her husband died years ago, as did his wife, and in such a small town they’d been neighbors for decades, but had little contact. Their children live far away and they are all alone in their big houses. She seeks to establish a connection, and make the most of the rest of the time they have.”

A 10-episode, one-hour drama starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. Bateman also serves as an executive producer and director on the series.

“Grounded in dark reality, this money-centric present day story revolves around financial planner Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Bird (Laura Linney) and their family’s sudden relocation from the suburbs of Chicago to a summer resort community in the Missouri Ozarks. “Directed by Kazuto Nakazawa, Perfect Bones is set in the future where scientists have tried to create the “perfect human” in hopes of keeping peace in the universe. After nearly achieving their goal through several children, the scientists send their “new humans” for further training where they are kidnapped by an evil organization set on using their powers to implement their own concept of a new world order.”

This marks the first ever original anime title to debut all episodes simultaneously in 190 countries around the world. The series will consist of 12 episodes.

Directed by Fernando Coimbra, written by Chris Roessner, the war drama stars Henry Cavill, Nicholas Hoult, Glen Powell, Tommy Flanagan, and Logan Marshall-Green.

Lee is directing the entire series and serves as creator and executive producer along with his producer and wife Tonya Lewis Lee, who will also executive produce.

The 26 episode series marks the first time Hasbro Studios is creating original programming for Netflix and will be available to members in late 2017.

2017 TBD: Trollhunters Season 2 [Kid’s Show]

Guillermo Del Toro’s animated series will return for a second season, which will bring back the late and great Anton Yelchin as the titular Trollhunter Jim Lake Jr. The first season of Trollhunters premiered on December 23rd, 2016 and consisted of 26 episodes. The second season run will be released later in 2017, and will feature 13 new episodes. The story will follow Jim as he adventures deeper into the Troll world to battle the leader of the Darklands, while his team tries to keep order in the human world. Find out more details here.

The Netflix original film is based on the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by the late journalist Michael Hastings. Joining Pitt in War Machine is a highly decorated cast including Tilda Swinton, Sir Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Keith Stanfield, Emory Cohen and Meg Tilly. Ian Bryce and Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Brad Pitt serve as producers. James Skotchdopole serves as executive producer.

Season two is about the promise the camp counselors made at the end of the 2001 film: revisit Camp Firewood 10 years later to see what kind of people they’ve all become.
