April 7: Win It All [Movie]

“Jake Johnson (New Girl) stars as small time gambler Eddie Garrett, who agrees to watch a duffel bag for an acquaintance who is heading to prison. When he discovers cash in the bag, he’s unable to resist the temptation and winds up deeply in debt. When the prison release is shortened, Eddie suddenly has a small window of time to win all the money back.”

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Revival Photo

April 14: Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return Season 1

Fans of the movie-mocking Mystery Science Theater 3000 had their wildest dreams come true when a successful Kickstarter campaign resulted in the show getting revived for a whole new season of episodes making fun of more movies.

The cast includes comedian Jonah Ray as the new observer and to his immediate left and right are Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn as the new voices of robots Crow and Tom Servo. On the outer left and right are Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt as evil scientists. Meanwhile, series creator Joel Hodgson is hiding there in the back on the right while the revival’s director Robert Cohen (Fresh Off the Boat, Maron) is in the background.

In addition to the primary cast, guest stars are supposed to include Mark Hamill, Jack Black, Neil Patrick Harris, Joel McHale, Bill Hader and Jerry Seinfeld. As for writing duties, The Daily Show‘s former head writer Elliott Kalan is serving as head writer and he’ll have help from Justin Roiland, Rob Schrab (The LEGO Movie Sequel), Nell Scovell (The Muppet Show), Ernest Cline (Ready Player One), Pat Rothfuss (The Name of the Wind), comedian Dana Gould, musical act Paul & Storm, and Robert Lopez (the EGOT-winning songwriter behind Frozen).

April 15: Slam [Movie]

Italian director Andrea Molaioli’s teen pregnancy film Slam is based on the novel by the same title by British writer Nick Hornby (High Fidelity, Fever Pitch, About a Boy). The story follows a “16-year-old skateboarding aficionado who is afraid of becoming a father.” It stars Jasmine Trinca (Miele) and Luca Marinelli (They Call Me Jeeg) as the protagonists’ young parents.

Bill Nye Saves the World

April 21: Bill Nye Saves the World Season 1

“Bill Nye hosts a talk show exploring scientific issues from space exploration to fad diets.” The 13-episode talk show will mark Nye’s long-awaited return to TV since first emerging as a household name in the 1990s as the creator and star of the Emmy award-winning syndicated television show Bill Nye the Science Guy. Each of the episodes will tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims. April 23: Girlboss Season 1

“‘Girlboss’ is inspired by the New York Times best-selling book #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, founder of the fashion brand Nasty Gal. The series centers on Amoruso (Britt Robertson), who began selling vintage clothes on eBay and, by the age of 28, had built the multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal. Girlboss will launch on Netflix in April and is created and executive produced by Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect 1& 2, 30 Rock), who also serves as showrunner. Charlize Theron (Monster, Young Adult), Laverne McKinnonand Beth Konoof Denver & Delilah, Christian Ditter (How to Be Single) and Sophia Amoruso will also serve as executive producers. Ditter also directed several episodes of the series, that is a Netflix production and there will be 13-half hour episodes. Dear White People

April 28: Dear White People Season 1

“Set against the backdrop of a predominantly white Ivy League university where racial tensions bubble just below the surface, ‘Dear White People’ is an hilarious send-up of ‘post-racial’ America that weaves together the universal story of finding one’s own identity and forging a wholly unique path.”

The satirical series — which picks up where the acclaimed 2014 film by the same name left off – follows a group of Winchester University’s students of color as they navigate a diverse landscape of social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness (or lack thereof) and sometimes misguided activism in the millennial age. Through an absurdist lens, Dear White People utilizes biting irony, self-deprecation and sometimes brutal honesty to hold up a mirror to the issues plaguing society today, all the while leading with laughter.

Brandon P. Bell and Marque Richardson reprise their roles as Troy and Reggie, respectively, but most of the cast is new. Logan Browing takes on Tessa Thompson’s original role of Sam, Antoinette Robertson replaces Teyonah Parris as Coco, and DeRon Horton steps in for Tyler James Williams as Lionel. Watch the Dear White People trailer here.

April 28: Spike Lee’s Rodney King [Documentary]

Netflix has bought the rights to Rodney King, a documentary directed by Spike Lee and performed as a one-man show by Roger Guenveur Smith. The streaming service will premiere on April 28 to coincide with the upcoming 25th anniversary of the state court acquittals of the four LAPD officers who were videotaped beating King in 1991.

The documentary sold to Netflix at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

April 28: Small Crimes [Movie]

“After serving time for the attempted murder of a District Attorney, disgraced former cop Joe Denton (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) returns home looking for redemption. An embarrassment to his parents and abandoned by his ex-wife, it seems as if things can’t get much worse. But then Joe finds himself trapped in the mess he left behind-in the cross fire between a crooked sheriff, the vengeful DA, and a mafia kingpin who knows too much.”

Small Crimes is a film directed by E.L. Katz (Cheap Thrills, a segment in ABCs of Death 2, and an episode of Scream: The TV Series)

Spring 2017: Get Me Roger Stone [Documentary]

Get Me Roger Stone, a Netflix original documentary, is directed by Morgan Pehme, Daniel DiMauro, and Dylan Bank and executive produced by Blair Foster, Lisa Nishimura, Jason Spingarn-Koff and Adam Del Deo.

Get Me Roger Stone will have its world premiere at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, before launching globally on Netflix in spring 2017.


May 5: Sense8 Season 2

Set in Prince Edward Island in the late 1890s, the series centers on Anne Shirley (Amybeth McNulty), a young orphaned girl who, after an abusive childhood spent in orphanages and the homes of strangers, is mistakenly sent to live with an aging sister and brother. Over time, 13-year-old Anne will transform the lives of Marilla (Geraldine James) and Matthew Cuthbert (R.H. Thomson) and eventually the entire small town in which they live with her unique spirit, fierce intellect and brilliant imagination.”

Anne is based on the 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery and adapted by Emmy Award-winning writer/producer Moira Walley-Beckett. The series will consist of 8 episodes, with Niki Caro directing the two-hour season premiere. Watch the Anne trailer here.

The comedy special will see Morgan explore his new take on life, career and mortality after surviving a near-fatal traffic collision in 2014. Topics include coping with a traumatic brain injury, his learning to walk again and even “falling for” his physical therapist. The special was filmed at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J.

Thirteen new episodes will be released in September of 2017. It was also revealed that the series has a 78-episode commitment from Netflix, which should equate to a six season run.

The series is based on the book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker, a 1996 nonfiction book that follows the agents of the FBI’s Investigative Support Unit. The tv series is set in 1979 and features Jonathan Groff (Looking, Glee) as Holden Ford, a special agent in the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, who teams with fellow agent Bill Tench (played by Jack Reacher: Never Go Back‘s Holt McCallany). The new tv series will also feature Anna Torv (Fringe), Tobias Lindholm (The HuntCotter Smith (X2).

October 31: Stranger Things Season 2

The Duffer Brothers return with another season of the hit Netflix series. The second season will have nine episodes, compared to eight for the first season. Matt and Ross Duffer will return as writers and executive producers. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen are also back as executive producers. Finding Nemo director Andrew Stanton is directing two of the episodes. The teaser trailer revealed nine titles, presumably the titles of the upcoming nine episodes: Madmax, The Boy Who Came Back To Life, The Pumpkin Patch, The Palace, The Storm, The Pollywog, The Secret Cabin, The Brain, and The Lost Brother.
