Ester Expósito's 102-Minute Romantic Thriller Is Officially Prime Video's Biggest Streaming Hit

Romantic fiction is all the rage in the 2020s, and Hollywood is taking full advantage of the trend. At a time when sexual politics have never been more fraught, there's apparently an insatiable desire for romantic fantasies wherein a guy and a girl transgress some moral or professional boundary to roger each other silly. It's a winning formula! Now, Spain has gotten in on the action with "Drawn Together," an adaptation of Mercedes Ron's duology "Enfrentados." The story of a woman who falls for her hot bodyguard has been given the streaming movie treatment courtesy of Prime Video and it's proving extremely popular — probably because of all the rogering.

In the age of BookTok, there's an inexhaustible supply of demonstrably popular fiction on which Hollywood can pounce. Blake Lively's "It Ends With Us" couldn't escape the curse of Colleen Hoover's book, but it sure was popular and it all started with the novel gaining viral fame on BookTok. Netflix's "My Oxford Year" was a big hit for the streamer, as was the adaptation of Emily Henry's book "People We Meet on Vacation," which is arguably one of the best Netflix movies of 2026. We've also seen some absolutely abject examples, the most obvious being Netflix's "365 Days" and Prime Videos "My Fault: London." That last example was an English-language adaptation of a Spanish film that was, in turn, based on a book by Mercedes Ron. Critics were not impressed, but fans of trashy romance nonsense were in heaven.

Now, those same fans have a brand new obsession: "Drawn Together." This is the latest adaptation of a Ron novel and it's proving just as popular as "My Fault: London." In fact, the Prime Video charts reveal this latest romance is nothing short of a worldwide phenomenon.

Argentinian-born Spanish writer Mercedes Ron has been churning out hit romance books since 2016 when "Culpa Mia" debuted on Wattpad. She's since written three more novels in that series, and Prime Video has turned three of them into hit movies, before remaking the first movie, "Culpa Mia," as "My Fault: London" in 2025. Every one of the film adaptations has been a huge hit, and now Prime Video has gone back to the well to adapt Ron's 2019 book, "Marfil."

"Drawn Together," or "Enfrentados: Marfil," is an English language Spanish romantic thriller directed by Óscar Pedraza, who makes his feature directorial debut after working in TV for a couple decades. "Drawn Together" was shot back to back with its follow-up, "Drawn Apart," or "Enfrentados: Ébano," and stars Ester Expósito as Marfil Cortés, daughter of wealthy Spanish businessman Alejandro Cortés (Pablo Molinero). While jogging in Central Park, Marfil is kidnapped but ultimately released. Her father, realizing the kidnappers were merely showing that they could get close if they wanted, hires a bodyguard who also happens to be the most handsome man in the world. Sebastián Moore (Hugo Diego Garcia) becomes Marfil's new protector, and wouldn't you know it, the two end up doing it.

Was there ever any doubt this was going to do well? "Drawn Together" has repeated the success of the previous Mercedes Ron adaptations, taking over the Prime Video charts and ensuring there'll be plenty more spicy romance movies to come in the near future.

"Drawn Together" was released on Prime Video on September 9, 2026 and the BookTokers and romance fiends immediately pounced on it like a horny heiress on a shirtless bodyguard. Per streaming viewership tracker FlixPatrol, as of September 10, 2026, "Drawn Together" is the number one movie in the world on Prime Video.

At the time of writing, the movie has hit the top spot in 23 countries around the world, propelling it to the top of the overall movie charts and sending it into the overall charts (combined TV and movies) in 26 countries. Interestingly enough, "Drawn Together" has only managed the number eight spot on the United States movie charts, and hasn't broken the overall chart stateside. But it's surely only a matter of time considering the popularity of romance, especially on Amazon's streaming service.

Aside from the "My Fault" movies, Prime Video's romantic drama "The Map That Leads to You" kick-started a BookTok trend in reverse by making the original novel a social media hit. This is also the platform responsible for "The Summer I Turned Pretty," which ended after Season 3. Fans of the series yearning for more drama and romance will no doubt find something to like about "Drawn Together" which just ensured the stream of BookTok-style romance movies will continue long after the sequel, "Drawn Apart," arrives.
