Even though Sam Worthington is the star of the highest grossing movie of all time, James Cameron’s Avatar, he’ll never quite be the box office draw as an actor like Will Smith. But it looks like he’ll try to follow closely in his footsteps on the dramatic side of things by starring in a movie that is basically his own Collateral Beauty.
The Shack, based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, follows a father (Worthington) who falls into a deep depression after his daughter is abducted on a family vacation and found murdered in a remote cabin in Oregon. But one day, he receives a mysterious letter calling him back to the cabin, and what he finds may be exactly what he needs to get his life back on track.

After delivering the charming St. Vincent starring Bill Murray last year, director Theodore Melfi is setting out to inspire with his latest true story Hidden Figures.
Hidden Figures comes from 20th Century Fox, but it has all the makings of the kind of uplifting story you’d see from Disney as it follows three African-American women working at NASA who not only helped break barriers in space, but also back home in their own offices. Now a new Hidden Figures trailer shows more of their inspirational work that helped move the human race forward in more ways than one. Read More »
Before he made the critically slammed The Amazing Spider-Man films, director Marc Webb was a darling of the indie film world. A music video and commercial director who broke onto the movie scene with the fantastic 500 Days of Summer. He returned to the more moderately-budgeted world of dramatic films (read: less studio and producer meddling) and reuniting with Fox Searchlight for his next film Gifted.
Chris Evans (Captain America) stars as a single father raising a child prodigy played by Mckenna Grace (Independence Day: Resurgence, Designated Survivor) and the struggle for him to retain custody. Officially, Hidden Figures does not open until January 13, 2017. But it’s hard not to suspect Fox 2000 is considering an awards season push for the historical drama, which centers around three black female NASA mathematicians and engineers who helped launch John Glenn into outer space in 1962. And if so, that campaign got off to a rousing start this weekend at TIFF.
Fox 2000 brought about half an hour of footage to present at the festival, followed by a panel presentation. The latter got emotional as star Taraji P. Henson came onstage wiping away tears, surrounded by co-stars Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae and producers Pharrell Williams and Jeno Topping. Read More »

Guillermo del Toro has about a hundred different projects cooking at any given moment, but as we reported back in March, his next directorial effort is a Cold War romance starring Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, and Michael Stuhlbarg. Of course, del Toro being del Toro, this isn’t just your run-of-the-mill period piece.
Earlier reports vaguely alluded to an “otherwordly” element, and now we might have a better idea of just what that might mean. A new report claims Richard Jenkins is looking to join the del Toro project… and that the story might involve an amphibious man. Read More »

And it feels like a new possibility presents itself each week, from a Fantastic Voyage remake for James Cameron to a Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark adaptation to a black-and-white luchador movie. But now it seems he’s finally made a decision on his next movie — and not only that, he’s already begun assembling a kick-ass cast.
