Who Plays Jim In Slow Horses Season 6?

"Slow Horses" has never been a show lacking in fully established character actors and bona fide stars, and Season 6 demonstrates that yet again. Not only are Gary Oldman and rumored James Bond contender Jack Lowden back as the curmudgeonly Jackson Lamb and bumbling agent River Cartwright, respectively, but so too is an entire ensemble full of both returning talent and newcomers. While this particular season requires viewers to remember a few familiar faces from early seasons of the Apple TV series, one new addition might just scratch that part of your brain that wonders where you've seen a certain performer before.

In true "Slow Horses" fashion, the premiere doesn't make us wait long before the action starts. While the bulk of the cold open revolves around disgraced agent Struan Loy (Paul Higgins), the real mystery has to do with the assassins sent to kill him. One stone-faced killer (named "Jane" in the end credits) is played by MyAnna Buring, whose most well-known roles include supporting appearances in Netflix's "The Witcher," "Ripper Street," and "Twilight." But the other one, credited as "Jim," is almost certain to get the wheels turning.

As confirmed in the credits, this is none other that actor Kyle Soller. While his résumé boasts plentiful roles dating back to 2012's "Anna Karenina," "Fury," and most recently the "Death by Lightning" miniseries, fans will know him best from his most high-profile turn of all: as Syril Karn in the "Star Wars" prequel series "Andor." In a fun twist, he's back in a similarly villainous position — though, this time, he's completely unafraid of getting his hands dirty.

We'd know that dead-eyed, cold-blooded, and utterly single-minded look anywhere. Kyle Soller isn't just one of our personal favorite interview subjects here at /Film.com, but he's become a reliable veteran and character actor in a number of genre projects. Luckily, his latest one comes in Season 6 of "Slow Horses" as an antagonist who appears set on taking out one former agent of Slough House after another.

Compared to his breakthrough performance as Syril Karn in both seasons of the Disney+ series "Andor," who was much more comfortable devoting his life to an imperial machine that ultimately ground him into the dirt, his character here is a true foot soldier in every sense of the phrase. Every season of "Slow Horses" needs a secondary villain or two who actually do the grunt work on the ground. There are always deeper and darker political forces behind the havoc wreaked upon England and the United Kingdom at large, but it's the tireless work of the murderers and miscreants and ne'er-do-wells actually pulling triggers that makes the world go 'round. The premiere has given us every indication that both Soller's "Jim" and MyAnna Buring's "Jane" (both of which are likely code names) will fill that role throughout Season 6.

While our ineffectual good guys tend to come out on top, here's hoping Jim gets to cause as much chaos as possible before the end. Based on the early going, we may be in luck. New episodes of "Slow Horses" stream on Apple TV every Wednesday.
