Marshals Is Bringing Back This Fan-Favorite Yellowstone Character — And Not Just As A Guest

"Marshals" might seem like it has no idea what it's about, but it knows what the fans want: "Yellowstone" cameos. Well, they'll be getting more than that as, per The Hollywood Reporter, Jefferson White, who played fan-favorite ranch hand Jimmy Hurdstrom on the original series, has joined the "Marshals" cast in a recurring capacity for Season 2. 

The Luke Grimes-led procedural's cast already boasts former "Yellowstone" mainstays, including Gil Birmingham's Thomas Rainwater, Mo Brings Plenty's Mo, and Brecken Merrill's Tate Dutton. Many were hoping the show would deliver more "Yellowstone" cameos, but the producers have gone one better and given White's Jimmy a recurring role.

It follows news that the previously announced "6666" spin-off, which was set to feature Jimmy, is not happening. Taylor Sheridan told the "Rodeo Time" podcast (via Deadline), "There's never going to be [a '6666' spin-off]. I would never fictionalize that ranch [...] People thought that that was going to be [made], but I would never do that." The "Yellowstone" creator is part-owner of the real-life Four Sixes Ranch on which the offshoot was set to be based, and seems to have decided that the real people who work there deserve better than for their workplace to be given the Sheridan melodrama treatment. Of course, that meant Jimmy and his fellow "Yellowstone" alums who made the trip to Texas wouldn't be returning to screens. But that has all changed with this latest news.

Jimmy Hurdstrom was with "Yellowstone" from the very beginning. Initially a meth cook, he was inducted into the Yellowstone Ranch brotherhood by Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), who branded Jimmy and, along with the rest of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch crew, taught him the ways of the cowboy. By the end of the show's fifth and final season, he was a new man altogether. He joined fellow ranch-hand Teeter (Jennifer Landon) in traveling from Montana to Texas to work at the 6666 Ranch with Taylor Sheridan's Travis Wheatley. For some time it looked as though fans would get an update via the "6666" spin-off, but now that's been scrapped, it seems "Marshals" will fill the gaps.

Speaking about his return to the Sheridan-verse on "Marshals," White said:

"I'm thrilled to dive into the world of 'Marshals' and continue exploring the American West. The cast and crew are stacked full of my favorite actors and filmmakers, and I'm honored to join them. Jimmy and I have been through a lot together, and I can't wait to see what's next for us."

"Marshals" Season 1 ended with Kayce Dutton's (Luke Grimes) son, Tate Dutton, being taken to Texas by shady rancher Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey). Fans speculated that this could lead to a crossover with the Texas-set "Dutton Ranch," but it seems as though, in lieu of Rip Wheeler and Kelly Reilly's Beth Dutton, we'll be getting Jimmy instead — though there could be some yet-to-be-revealed cameos. Just what role Jimmy will play on "Marshals" going forward remains to be seen, as it's unclear just how "recurring" he'll be. But with the "6666" spin-off now canned, he might just be preparing for a move back to Montana.
