The Last Of Us Season 3 Set Photos Reveal Kaitlyn Dever's Abby With Lev
For those looking for a much-needed break from the horrors of reality and a pivot to something much more comforting, may we interest you in some "The Last of Us" updates? Okay, so the post-apocalyptic story all about the darkness and innate flaws within the human condition might not be the most ideal form of escapism, but we'll take what we can get at this point. After delivering two generally acclaimed seasons of television over the last few years, the HBO series has finally begun production on season 3, which was confirmed before season 2 had even aired. With filming commencing out in broad daylight in Vancouver, Canada, it was only a matter of time before set photos began trickling out onto the internet.
That time has come. Only weeks removed from the (somewhat controversial) news that "The Last of Us" had cast actors Michelle Mao and Kyriana Kratter in the roles of Yara and Lev, pictures have circulated showing one half of that duo in action alongside Kaitlyn Devers' Abby. The set photos come courtesy of the Canadagraphs official Instagram account, which posted several images taken from the streets of downtown Vancouver. They show Abby climbing up to a dilapidated rooftop alongside series newcomer Kratter as Lev. Although this generic setting makes it tough to pinpoint exactly what scene from the original "The Last of Us Part II" video game is being adapted here, a closer look at the actors' costuming and makeup (along with a few other additional photos) reveals slightly more than fans may think at first blush.
The Last of Us season 3 promises to spend a lot of time on the Abby/Lev dynamic
Whatever else might be said for it, "The Last of Us" at least seems like it will continue the HBO adaptation's trend for meticulously recreating the look and feel of the original games. That's probably the main takeaway from these set photos for the third season, which will apparently be the penultimate one before season 4 (likely) brings the story to a close. Now that we've seen Abby and Lev in the flesh, the next question on the minds of fans would be the matter of which specific scenes are being filmed. Obviously, light spoilers for season 3 and "The Last of Us Part II" to follow.
Are you seeing what I'm seeing? Look very closely at the photos of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, and you might notice that alarmingly red bruising around her neck. That, as gamers will surely remember, indicates that this takes place close on the heels of Abby's early encounter with the antagonistic group known as Seraphites. In the game, one of Abby's missions takes her outside the confines of Seattle. There, she's overtaken and captured by Seraphites. Strung up by her neck and left to hang, it appears she's in for a grisly fate ... until she's saved by the arrivals of Lev and Yara. The set photos would seem to reveal that we're in for a similar moment in the show, with plenty more scares to come. (Let's just say that those with a fear of heights, such as myself, would be wise to brace themselves for when season 3 rolls around.)
No release date for "The Last of Us" season 3 has been formally announced, but expect it to hit HBO/HBO Max sometime in 2027.
