Sony Pictures is shifting some of the movies intended for release towards the end of 2018.
First up, is a big delay for James Gunn’s mysterious horror film BrightBurn, which will now open in May of 2019. But the film’s original November 2018 release date will be filled by another horror film called The Possession of Hannah Grace. Sony Pictures is setting and shuffling a handful of release dates for upcoming movies in 2018 and 2019.
Sony and their Columbia Pictures banner have set a release date for their second Spider-Man spin-off Silver and Black, as well as the sequel to the hit drug trafficking thriller Sicario. We first heard about Holmes and Watson back in 2008. At the time, it was going to star Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen, but the comedy fell to the wayside, and we instead got two Sherlock Holmes movies from Guy Ritchie. The musical was revived last summer with Ferrell still onboard but with Cohen out. Etan Cohen‘s (Get Hard) film now has John C. Reilly playing Watson, making this an exciting reunion for the Step-Brothers and Talladega Nights stars. They’re in good company, too, as Hugh Laurie (Chance) and Ralph Fiennes (A Bigger Splash) have signed on to star in the film.

Even though there have been rumblings of a Step Brothers sequel, it’s safe to say that project is probably just a pipe dream at this point. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t have another team-up of Talladega Nights stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in the near future.
Holmes and Watson is a comedic take on Sherlock Holmes that has been kicking around since 2008, but it fell to the wayside when Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of the detective with Robert Downey Jr. moved forward quickly and successfully. But now it appears enough time has passed for the project to resurface as a new project for Ferrell and Reilly to finally reunite yet again.
