happy death day 3

The Happy Death Day franchise has been a pleasant surprise. What could’ve been a dumb Groundhog Day knock-off has instead turned into a consistently enjoyable, even charming franchise, boasting a killer lead performance from franchise star Jessica RotheHappy Death Day was a blast, and this year’s Happy Death Day 2U was even better. But while the sequel ended with a set-up for a third film, director Christopher Landon says Happy Day Day 3 won’t be happening anytime soon. And that’s disappointing.

New Blu-ray Releases Happy Death Day 2U

This week, several titles get new, splendid-looking 4K releases. You’ll also have a chance to pick up a criminally underrated horror sequel from earlier this year, as well as a new creepy kid movie. In addition to that, we’re trying out something new with this column: rather than just break down the special features, you’ll find reasons why any of these films are worth owning physically (rather than relying on those newfangled digital copies). These are the new Blu-ray releases and their special features you should check out this week.

Alita Battle Angel clip

Last year, President’s Day weekend was quite the box office bonanza thanks to Black Panther raking in $202 million in its opening days. This year, the holiday weekend wasn’t fortunate enough to have such an impressive performer, and it resulted in the worst three-day President’s Day weekend since 2004.

Alita: Battle Angel landed at the top of the box office with $27.8 million. Even though that doesn’t seem like an impressive number for a movie that cost $170 million to make, the film still performed beyond analyst expectations. But not all of the new releases were so lucky. Read More »

happy death day 2u review

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. An unlucky person finds themselves living the same day, over and over again, in a continual loop. If they happen to die, they have to start the day all over again. And things are exactly the same…except when they aren’t. Sounds pretty familiar, right? It should. It’s the plot of Groundhog Day, but it’s also the plot of several other notable titles: Edge of Tomorrow, the recent Netflix series Russian Doll, and of course, Happy Death Day, the clever slasher flick from 2017.

Now here comes Happy Death Day 2U, a sequel that might not have seemed likely when the credits on Happy Death Day rolled. After all, the person stuck in same day – college student Tree Gelbman – was able to close the loop, and become a better person in the process. Surely Tree couldn’t get stuck in a loop again…right?

happy death day 2u release date

Happy Death Day 2U, the sequel to the surprisingly enjoyable Happy Death Day, was all set for a February 14 release date. While most of us immediately associate that date with Valentine’s Day, it also has a far more tragic connotation. February 14, 2019 will mark the one-year mark of the tragic Parkland shooting, where 17 people were killed at Stoneman Douglas High School. Releasing a movie called Happy Death Day 2U on the anniversary of the shooting sparked understandable discomfort in Fred Guttenberg, one of the parents of the Parkland victims. Now, as a direct result of Guttenberg’s pleas, the Happy Death Day 2U release date will be moved up a day.

Happy Death Day 2U Trailer

After saving the day, literally, Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) appeared to have defeated the masked killer who somehow kept coming after her over and over again as she relived the same day. It was like a Groundhog Day from hell. But now her happy ending has been given another twist, because the killer is back in Happy Death Day 2U, and he’s not just coming after her anymore. This time, they’re coming after her friends too, and the killer may not be who it was before.

happy death day 2u trailer

The Blumhouse scare machine has pumped out another fright fest: Happy Death Day 2U, the sequel to 2017’s Happy Death Day. That’s bad enough as-is, but to make matters worse, she also kept being murdered over and over again as well. Now, the cycle continues. Watch the Happy Death Day 2U trailer below.
