Dark Phoenix Featurettes

Today has been arbitrarily declared X-Men day as 20th Century Fox (or what’s left of it) continues to market Dark Phoenix, the last film in the X-Men film franchise as we know it. In honor of the makeshift publicity holiday, a trio of new featurettes have been released focusing on both the legacy of the X-Men on the big screen that spans all the way back to 2000 and the original Marvel Comics storyline that inspired the new movie. x-men day

I have some good news and bad news. The good news: next week is X-Men Day! The bad news: it’s not a federal holiday, so you all still have to go to work. Sorry. X-Men Day kicks-off the advance ticket sales for Dark Phoenix, which is likely to be the final installment in the X-Men film series as we know it. More on X-Men Day, plus a neat new poster, below.

dark phoenix reshoots

You know what’s exciting? Space! The final frontier! Vast and mysterious! But who needs space when you can have…a train. At least, that was the thinking behind the Dark Phoenix reshoots. A new piece about the production reveals that the filmmakers behind the latest X-Men movie changed the film’s big climactic action setting from being in outer space to being on board a train, which is probably just as thrilling. Maybe.

Dark Phoenix Trailer

Now that 20th Century Fox has been bought by Disney, the Marvel Comics mutants known as the X-Men are back home at Marvel Studios. But before that, the studio will finish the initial series nearly 20 years later with the final installment of the franchise: Dark Phoenix. The only problem is that it’s retelling a story that we’ve already heard before, and much like the recent reboot of Hellboy, it doesn’t seem to be doing much to improve it in any way. Watch the new Dark Phoenix trailer below. Read More »

Dark Phoenix TV spot

The newest X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, is going to shake things up by killing off at least one major character – could one of the film’s casualties be Michael Fassbender‘s Magneto? A new Dark Phoenix TV spot shows Sophie Turner‘s Jean Grey, infused with the Phoenix Force, not taking kindly to a threat, and it appears that it could be curtains for Magneto before the final credits roll. Dark Phoenix Stan Lee Cameo

Stan Lee has made no less than 37 appearances in movies based on Marvel Comics. But since we lost the legendary creator last year, those cameos are sadly coming to an end. Recently we heard that Avengers: Endgame will feature Stan Lee’s final cameo appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it sounds like it’ll be his last Marvel cameo entirely too.

Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg has confirmed that there isn’t a Stan Lee cameo in the movie, but there is some kind of tribute to the man who helped make Marvel Comics what it is today. Read More »

dark phoenix international trailer

After a long wait, the X-Men: Dark Phoenix trailer debuted last week. The response was…underwhelming. At this point, the current X-Men franchise as we know seems to have run its course, to the point where the series is doubling back on itself – retelling a story already told in X-Men: The Last Stand. If you were one of the people disappointed with the Dark Phoenix domestic trailer, you might want to check out the newly released international trailer. It features new footage, and plays slightly better.  Read More »

X-Men Dark Phoenix

This post contains spoilers, all of which are seen in the new X-Men: Dark Phoenix trailer.

The latest Dark Phoenix trailer teased the new crisis the X-Men have to contend with: Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), who starts to lose control of her telekinetic abilities. In fact, it did much more than tease. It confirmed the death of a major character. Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) will meet her end in this movie, and it’s not one of those superhero deaths that’s only temporary. In fact, it will really shake things up for all the mutants, whether they’re on Xavier’s team or in Magneto’s brotherhood. But apparently it’s not the only death we’ll see in the movie.

Director Simon Kinberg recently had an extensive chat about what’s shown in the trailer, and he revealed that there will be more casualties among this roster of mutants. He also discussed that massive train sequence and Jessica Chastain‘s mysterious character’s motivations. But perhaps most importantly, he discussed whether or not this is the end of the X-Men franchise as we know it. Read More »
