Suncoast: Everything We Know So Far About The Laura Linney, Woody Harrelson Drama

Laura Chinn has written for projects like "The Mick," "Children's Hospital," and "Florida Girls," which she created and starred in. She's also acted in projects like "Happy Endings," and "Warrior." If that wasn't enough, Chinn had a script selected for 2020's The Black List, a grouping of all the unproduced scripts of note from that year. That script is set to become the upcoming drama film "Suncoast," which will serve as Chinn's directorial debut, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Production for the new film will begin in September through Searchlight Pictures, with a number of big-name actors signing on for roles, including Woody Harrelson ("The People vs. Larry Flynt," "True Detective") and Laura Linney ("The Truman Show," "Ozark"). Laura Chinn recently published her memoir entitled "Acne" through Hachette Books, which scored a review blurb from Tina Fey ("30 Rock") on the cover.

Here is everything we know so far about the film "Suncoast."

What we think Suncoast will be about

The script for "Suncoast" is, according to the THR article, inspired by Chinn's real life experiences growing up in the early 2000s, something her memoir "Acne" also tackles, according to the book's synopsis. It's the story of a teenager who lives with "her strong-willed mother," and who has to bring her brother to a specialized facility. She forms a friendship with an "eccentric activist amid protests surrounding controversial medical cases."

The Black List logline reads: "An awkward teenage outcast comes of age against the backdrop of the hospice where her brother (and coincidentally, Terri Schiavo) are dying." The case of Terri Schiavo — and the decision to take someone off of life support — is most likely the "controversial medical case" that the THR description is referring to.

Though it isn't stated, the title "Suncoast" could be referring to where Chinn grew up in Clearwater, Florida and Los Angeles, as her memoir synopsis states.

What we know about the cast and crew of Suncoast

Laura Linney is set to play the role of the main character's mother, with Woody Harrelson as the eccentric activist. Linney is coming off of the acclaimed Netflix series "Ozark." She has been nominated for Academy Awards for her work in "Savages," "Kinsey," and "You Can Count on Me." Harrelson was nominated for his performances in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," "The Messenger," and "The People vs. Larry Flynt."

The lead role will be played by Nico Parker, who played the role of Milly in the 2019 Disney live-action film "Dumbo," directed by Tim Burton, and the HBO Max film "Reminiscence" with Hugh Jackman. She's been cast as Sarah in the adaptation of the video game "The Last of Us."

Producers for "Suncoast" include Jeremy Plager, Francesca Silvestri, Kevin Chinoy, and Oly Obst. It will be overseen by Taylor Friedman, the Searchlight senior vice president of production, and Daniel Yu, the manager of creative affairs under DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.

There is no release date at the moment for "Suncoast," but we'll keep you updated as the news becomes available.
