Tales Of The Walking Dead: Release Date, Cast, And More

(Welcome to ...And More, our no-frills, zero B.S. guide to when and where you can watch upcoming movies and shows, and everything else you could possibly stand to know.)

"The Walking Dead" is without a doubt one of the defining cable TV shows of the last decade. Based on Robert Kirkman's wildly popular zombie comic of the same name from Image Comics, the show on AMC managed to bring horror to mainstream TV in a gigantic way, becoming one of the most popular shows on all of television — by a wide mile mind you. But with the show coming to an end very soon, AMC is turning its attention to the future, which involves several new spin-offs to go with "Fear the Walking Dead."

Coming our way later this summer is "Tales of the Walking Dead," which will take an anthology approach to the walker-filled apocalyptic wasteland. For those interested in such shenanigans, we're here to give you all of the need-to-know details ahead of the show's arrival.

Here is everything you need to know about "Tales of the Walking Dead."

Tales of the Walking Dead release date and where you can watch it

"Tales of the Walking Dead" is set to debut on AMC on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. Viewers will have the option to watch the episodes on air through a cable provider or to stream them on AMC+. The first two episodes will stream that same night on AMC+ with the following episodes set to be released one week early, beginning Sunday, August 21.

What is Tales of the Walking Dead?

This is one of several "Walking Dead" spin-offs that AMC has in the works to help fill the void with the main show concluding its run after 11 seasons. Unlike "Fear the Walking Dead," however, this will be an anthology series with a new set of characters and stories to follow each week. So, in theory, this could provide a fresh start to viewers and each episode could be enjoyed as its own thing without having to worry about the daunting, overall continuity.

Tales of the Walking Dead director, crew, and more

Channing Powell, a writer and producer on both "The Walking Dead" and "Fear the Walking Dead" is on board as showrunner of the series. Powell will also executive produce alongside Scott M. Gimple, the chief content officer of the Walking Dead Universe. Haifaa al-Mansour ("Good Lord Bird"), Deborah Kampmeier ("Star Trek: Picard"), and Ron Underwood ("Big Shot") will each direct one episode of the first season. Series producer Michael Satrazemis is directing the other three, having been part of the "Walking Dead" Universe for some time already.

Tales of the Walking Dead cast

Each episode of the show will have a unique cast. Some of the stars headlining the first season include Olivia Munn ("The Newsroom"), Samantha Morton ("Harlots"), Terry Crews ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine"), Parker Posey ("Lost In Space"), Anthony Edwards ("WeCrashed"), Poppy Liu ("Dead Ringers"), Jillian Bell ("Rough Night"), Loan Chabanol ("Fading Gigolo"), Embeth Davidtz ("Ray Donovan") Jessie T. Usher ("The Boys"), Daniella Pineda ("Cowboy Bebop"), and Danny Ramirez ("Top Gun: Maverick").

Tales of the Walking Dead trailer and synopsis

AMC has yet to release a trailer for the show as of this writing, though we do have a very brief teaser (above). Also, we don't yet have synopses for each of the individual episodes in the first season. We do, however, have an overall logline for "Tales of the Walking Dead" that offers some idea of what viewers can expect, which you can read below.

"Tales of the Walking Dead" consists of six original one-hour standalone episodes focused on both new and established characters within the walker apocalypse. Each episode has its own distinct tone and point of view — but the stakes are high in each story, pushing new, indelible characters with relentless, life-threatening choices and situations. We get to see the apocalypse through different eyes, discovering more worlds, mythos, and mysteries of the "Walking Dead."
