Disney has used many witches as villains throughout their history in both animation and live-action, but their upcoming new movie "Hexed" will feature a witch as the protagonist. Hailee Steinfeld voices an outcast teenage girl named Billie who discovers that she has magical powers. Unfortunately, those magical powers inadvertently whisk her away to the magical world of Hexe, where those abilities are much more common among seasoned witches and wizards, and she finds herself a bit out of her element, despite being incredibly eager to user her newfound magic. So if the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO isn't for you, this might scratch that witchcraft itch instead.

As the new "Hexed" trailer released by Disney reveals, Billie isn't entirely welcomed with open arms in the world of Hexe, as the powerful witch Queen Celeste wants the new arrival captured. Why? Well, as Walton Goggins narrates in the trailer as the magical cat Beef Roger Crummchuk, "It was foretold that an ordinary girl would become an extraordinary witch and save the world of magic from evil." And it seems Billie might be that girl.

The new "Hexed" trailer also reveals that Billie's magical abilities as a witch have been kept dormant by her mother Alice (Rashida Jones), who affixed her wrist with a purple gem that blocks her powers, in order to keep her safe. So when Billie accidentally opens a portal to the world of Hexe, of course her protective mother must track her down. And there's likely more to their family's history than merely being witches.

However, the most intriguing addition to the marketing tease for "Hexed" is that green, three-eyed, surly cat Beef Roger Crummchuk, who was first revealed during Disney's D23 Expo back in September. Looking like he's got a little of "The Big Lebowski" in him, Beef becomes Billie's reluctant mentor, helping her master her magical abilities, even though it ends up in the loss of a microwave with a family along the way.

This trailer reveals much more of the world of "Hexed," and it makes great use of the Paramore song "Ain't It Fun" too. So far, this looks like a promising magical adventure from Disney. But can it live up to the legacy of Disney hits like "Frozen" and "Moana" when it hits theaters? We'll find out when the film arrives on November 25, 2026, in that prime Thanksgiving release week.
