How To Watch Renfield At Home

Nicolas Cage took on one of his most high-profile roles in quite some time, becoming Dracula in "Renfield." While the tale of Dracula has been told many, many times before, this particular film focuses more on the vampire's loyal assistant, played by Nicholas Hoult in this case. What we wind up with is a blend of action and comedy mixed in with some majorly bloody horror. For those who may have missed the movie in theaters, it is now available to watch from home with the click of a few buttons.

Universal Pictures has announced that director Chris McKay's "Renfield" is now available to either rent or purchase via Digital retailers. Initially, the rental price will be at the premium VOD level, meaning it will cost $19.99 for a 48-hour rental, as has been the case with most big studio movies right after they wrap up their runs in theaters. It can also be purchased for $24.99. The rental price will go down over time but, out the gate, this is just the way it is.

For those who may not be aware of the specifics, the synopsis for the film reads as follows:

Nicholas Hoult stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history's most narcissistic boss: Dracula (Nicolas Cage). For centuries, Renfield has slavishly served Dracula by procuring his master's prey and doing his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, Renfield is ready to look for a new life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness, if only he can figure out how to end the toxic, codependent relationship...

When will Renfield be on a major streaming service?

For those who are content to wait until the movie make its way onto a major streaming service (where subscribers can watch it at no additional cost), the wait will be a little longer — although we do know where "Renfield" will ultimately end up.

Universal Pictures currently has a deal in place that sees all of its theatrical releases going to Peacock after all of the other pay windows are up. That means "Renfield" will end up on the streaming service around 45 days after its initial theatrical debut. In this case, the movie hit theaters on April 14, 2023, which means it should make its way onto Peacock near the end of May or in early June. For now, the streamer has yet to announce an official release date, but we'll be sure to update this post in the future when that changes.

What about the Blu-ray?

The other lingering question is for those among us who still collect physical media (something that continues to have a great deal of value, given all the uncertainty of the modern age of streaming). Luckily, Universal Pictures has remained very consistent in releasing its movies on Blu-ray and DVD in addition to streaming, as well as 4K Ultra HD in many cases.

"Renfield" is also expected to get a Blu-ray release, although it has yet to receive a release date at the time of writing. Again, we'll be sure to keep this post updated as soon as that information is made available.
