Everything We Know So Far About Butterfly, Amazon's New Spy Thriller Series Starring Daniel Dae Kim

There's something inherently exciting about the world of espionage. From the secrets, betrayals, and exciting new gadgets secret agents have at their disposal to international accidents and all-consuming action stunts, there's never been a shortage of spy stories in the world. And as any admirer of them will tell you — there's no such thing as having too much of the espionage genre. Amazon's newest series is turning up to be a great addition to it!

The company's latest project is a character-driven spy thriller led by "Lost" alum Daniel Dae Kim (via Variety). The series will be an adaptation of the 2015 graphic novel "Butterfly" by Arash Amel and Marguerite Bennett (writers) and Antonio Fuso and Stefano Simeone (illustrators). Per the published report, the series will be filmed in South Korea and feature dialogue in English and Korean. Here's all we know about it.

Everything we know about the story of Butterfly

An official description for the series reads that "Butterfly" follows an intelligence operative and a deadly young agent in a cat-and-mouse chase of sorts. It is centered on "David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca, a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him."

In the graphic novel, Butterfly is the code name for one of Project Delta's "deep cover agents," who operates as a complete ghost and is "trained to trust no one." The actor described the show as "a compelling series with truly unique characters." "Butterfly" is an international story set in South Korea, where the actor was born, and the project is meaningful to him for that reason. If "Butterfly" goes to series, it would be his first big role in nearly six years since he exited the CBS reboot of "Hawaii Five-O." He was previously seen in "Stowaway" and will also be seen in the television adaptation of "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

Everything we know about the cast and crew of Butterfly

Daniel Dae Kim will lead the series as the titular secret agent, and other cast details are being kept under wraps. However, we have learned that Ken Woodruff, known for his stellar work on "The Mentalist" and "Gotham," is co-creating the series with crime-fiction author Steph Cha. Both Woodruff and Cha will join Kim as executive producers on the series. The actor will also serve as a producer under his film and television company, 3AD, which presently has a first-look TV deal at Amazon.

There's no release date for "Butterfly" yet but you can watch this space for more information about the show!
