Blood: Everything We Know So Far About The Michelle Monaghan Vampire Movie

If you aren't already satiated on blood from 2022, the erstwhile Year of the Vampire, not to worry. 2023 has already hit the ground running with trailers for more than one new vampire movie. The first week of the New Year brought a trailer for "Renfield," in which Nicholas Hoult plays a super-powered, action-comedy version of the title character, while Nicolas Cage plays his toxic master, Dracula himself. Now, Michelle Monaghan is flying over with "Blood," another vampire movie that's headed your way very soon.

Sharpen your wooden stakes — or your porcelain fangs, whichever you prefer — and get the details on "Blood," below.

Where and when can I see Blood?

You can see blood in refrigerated bags in the hospital and sometimes on the mouths of vampire younglings. I won't call them "children" because these little monsters, like the one at the center of "Blood," don't deserve to be humanized when they're sucking plasma from people.

If you want to watch the movie "Blood," you can do it in theaters on Friday, January 27, 2023, or via on-demand services the following Tuesday, January, 31, 2023. That means "Blood" should be available to rent or at least buy on the usual digital platforms like iTunes and Prime Video by the end of the month.

What is Blood about?

"Blood" is about a boy named Owen who gets attacked by a dog with glowing eyes one night, only to develop a thirst for blood after he awakens in the hospital. His mother Jess is then forced to contend with how to care for her son's new dietary needs.

It might seem like Owen should become a werewolf after his canine encounter, but never forget that Dracula and perhaps other vampires can take on the form of wolves and rats as well as bats. Or maybe it's just a vampire dog that bites Owen. Either way, I wouldn't trust this kid around his sister, Dad, Mom, or any human, really.

The cast and crew of Blood

In addition to the aforementioned Michelle Monaghan and Finlay Wojtak-Hissong as Jess and Owen, "Blood" stars "Scream" veteran Skeet Ulrich along with June B. Wilde and Skylar Morgan Jones. The movie is written by Brad Honley and directed by Brad Anderson, the latter of whom is known for psychological thrillers like "Session 9" and "Transsiberian."

In "The Machinist," Christian Bale lost a great deal of weight to play the emaciated role of Trevor Reznick for Anderson, but in "Blood," it looks like much of the conflict derives from doing whatever is necessary to keep Owen from starving or going thirsty. It's all well and good when your kid craves juice pouches, but what happens when Mom starts harvesting rabbits and strapping strangers to a chair to feed the boy?

Here's the official synopsis for "Blood" from Vertical Entertainment:

Jess (Michelle Monaghan), a nurse and mother recently separated from her husband (Skeet Ulrich), moves her daughter Tyler (Skylar Morgan Jones) and young son Owen (Finlay Wojtak-Hissong) back into her family farmhouse. Shortly after settling in, Owen's dog escapes into the woods and returns days later, blood-soaked and rabid. When the dog attacks and bites him, the resulting infection grows more shocking as Owen's behavior becomes frightening and deadly. As he spirals deeper into the depths of the illness, Jess discovers a disturbing cure, which makes her question how far she is willing to go to keep her child alive.
