Since Zootopia has been on home video for awhile, I hope you’ve taken the time to pause the movie during the scene where Duke Weaselton is selling bootleg copies of movies we all know and love, but with an animal twist that only Zootopia can offer. You’ll find titles like Wreck-It Rhino, Meowana and Pig Hero 6 in the pile of bootleg movies, showing us what the animal versions of those movies would be like in the thriving metropolis of anthropomorphic creatures.
Now Zootopia directors Rich Moore and Byron Howard, as well as screenwriter Jared Bush, have created parody posters for some of the Oscar nominees who will be vying for a golden man when the awards are passed on this Sunday, February 26. They include pun-tastic parodies of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, La La Land, Hell or High Water and more.

The Academy Awards are just three weeks away, but until then we’re still hearing about various guilds handing out there awards honoring the films of 2016. Just last weekend the Producers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild handed out there awards, with La La Land and Hidden Figures taking home top honors in each ceremony. Now three more industry organizations have chimed in with their accolades.
The Directors Guild of America (DGA), the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) and the International Animated Film Society (ASIFA) all handed out their awards this past weekend, and while La La Land landed another big award, Lion got some love too, along with Zootopia. Find out the 2017 DGA award winners along with the ASC and ASIFA award recipients after the jump. Read More »
With the Academy Awards less than a month away, we’re in the heart of awards season. The nominations for the Oscars were just announced last week, but the various guilds are already handing out their awards leading up to Hollywood’s big night. Tonight will see the announcement of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, but before that, we already have the winners of this year’s Producers Guild of America Awards.
The 2017 PGA award winners were announced this past Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, honoring producers both in motion pictures and television. It should come as no surprise that La La Land came out on top with the The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, continuing its march to likely win many if not all of the 14 Oscars it was nominated for. But where did the rest of the awards fall? Which animated film came out on top? Which TV series?

There are a handful of movie websites I visit every single day for both work and avoiding work and Rotten Tomatoes as one of them. As the internet’s most popular (and also most prone to fanboy raging) movie review aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes assembles reviews from critics and tabulates a score based on the number of positive reactions versus negative reactions. The resulting percentage is worn as badge of honor for movies that are well-liked and treated as proof that “critics don’t get it” by movies that are not.
But you surely know all of this already because you’re reading a movie website and also probably stop by Rotten Tomatoes on a semi-regular basis to learn the critical consensus on a given movie. Anyway, the reason we’re here now is that the 2016 Golden Tomato winners, the round-up of the best-reviewed movies and television shows of last year, have been revealed.

One of the big surprises of this awards season so far has been Deadpool‘s emergence as the scrappy little superhero movie that could. While its Golden Globe nomination wasn’t entirely unexpected, its Writers Guild nomination raised a few eyebrows. And now the Merc’s managed to wrangle himself a Producers Guild nomination as well.
Otherwise, it’s business as usual for the PGA nominations, which also went to favorites like La La Land and Moonlight. See the full list of 2017 PGA nominations below. Read More »

Let’s skip the usual blather about whether 2016 was a good year for movies or a bad year for movies and just get right to it, shall we? I saw a lot of films in 2016. Here were some of my very favorites.

We’re in awards season, which means it’s the time of year when critics’ groups praise their favorites, top 10 lists are published, and words like “overrated” and “underrated” become overused. Awards season can lead to healthy or unnecessarily heated debates among film fans online. The AFI Awards 2016 Official Selections may cause a disagreement or two, especially since they awarded Mel Gibson‘s Hacksaw Ridge and Clint Eastwood‘s Sully, but they’ve also selected other titles that do represent the best of 2016.
Below, see which movies the AFI Awards honored for the 17th year of voting.

With December just around the corner, we’re about to plunge face-first into awards season. Before we even get to the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards, we’ll hear from every major critics group across the United States. But before that, we can peruse the 2016 Annie Awards nominees, which look the honor the best in animated films and television. While the Annie’s don’t always agree with the Oscars, the nominees here may provide a preview of what to expect from this category in the months ahead.

It’s that glorious time of year when we get together with both the family members we love (and some that we could probably do without) to sit down for a tasty meal and hopefully not a big fight. But with an extended weekend upon us, you’ll likely have plenty of spare time while you’re hanging out with family, and you’re just not in the mood to talk anymore. That’s what it’s time to turn to Netflix to fill some time, and thankfully, there’s a wide variety of movies for you to watch with anyone and everyone in your family.
