'Star Wars Battlefront': 'Rogue One' DLC, Single Player Mode & Death Star Trailer

Star Wars Battlefront got plenty of fans excited last year, but upon arrival, the Electronic Arts games disappointed many, mostly due to the lack of single player options included with the title. While the game had much to offer in the multiplayer arena, many just weren't impressed with what they were given for the expensive price tag that comes with video games nowadays. The folks at EA have been listening the best they can, and they have at least one update that will make players happy starting next week.

In addition, the DLC for Star Wars Battlefront keeps coming later this year. EA teased the forthcoming Death Star expansion pack that finally takes the battle to space in a quick new trailer, and they also announced that the final expansion pack for the game this year will be a Rogue One update. Find out more about the Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One update and more after the jump.

Skirmish Mode

Let's start with the earliest addition to the game: Skirmish. This is a new game mode that will allow players to enjoy the game offline without having to get online and play against real players. Starting July 21st, Skirmish will be a new offline game mode that you can play either as a single player or with a friend as a split-screen co-op, fighting bots instead of human players around the world. Both Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron will have the new Skirmish game mode at varying difficulties. This kind of update has been a long time coming, but better late than never, I suppose.

Death Star Expansion Pack DLC

Now let's talk about the forthcoming DLC. Star Wars Battlefront fans already know that the next expansion pack coming to the game is the Death Star. Finally Fighter Squadron battles will be able to take place in space! And if you're looking for a tease of what to expect from the expansion, here's the trailer that was shown at Star Wars Celebration:

The update will bring new maps into play that will have gameplay just above the surfaced of the Death Star and out in space surrounding the weapon. Apparently you'll even be able to recreate the iconic climax of A New Hope by flying through the Death Star trench, which should be pretty spectacular.

There will also be gameplay inside the space station as well with the bounty hunter Bossk and Han Solo's buddy Chewbacca added as the new playable heroes. No word on whether or not the latter will be able to charge into a room full of Stormtroopers. This has the potential to be the most exciting DLC for Battlefront so far when it arrives in September, at least until...

Rogue One Expansion Pack DLC

The big news to come out of the EA panel at Star Wars Celebration today announced what it supposed to be the final DLC made available for the game, and it's a pretty cool one. Star Wars Battlefront will get a Rogue One expansion pack bringing elements from the upcoming Star Wars spin-off to the game.

The Rogue One DLC will arrive in early 2017 bringing the planet Scarif into play. That's the tropical beach planet we've been seeing so much of recently, featured prominently on the recently revealed teaser poster. Players will fight on the beachfronts seen in the footage from the movie so far, and that includes playing as Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and the new villain Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn)

Other than that, we're not sure what to expect from the expansion pack, but if the new Death Troopers aren't playable in the game, then this expansion will be a bust.

It's a shame we didn't get anymore Star Wars video game updates from EA for the time being, but there's bound to be more down the road. It seems strange that Rogue One will get an update for Star Wars Battlefront before The Force Awakens does, but maybe that's what the previously announced sequel to the game will bring to the table. We'll have to wait and see.
