Spider-Man Far From Home

Any fan who closely follows the development and marketing of Marvel Studios movies knows that Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland has a real problem with spoilers. The actor is so notorious for letting information slip that Benedict Cumberbatch has even made a habit out of stopping him from giving the game away. Well, now Tom Holland has given up a new detail about the forthcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.

Tom Holland is appearing at ACE Comic-Con in Seattle, Washington this weekend, and in an Instagram video he wanted to apologize to fans for not having any major details to reveal about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He merely confirmed that a Spider-Man sequel was in the works while acknowledging that he didn’t know how that was going to work since Peter Parker is dead and all. Then he showed off the fact that he had the script on his iPad, and the title of the movie was right there.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is called Spider-Man: Far From Home, and we already know why.

Here’s the Instagram video in question where Tom Holland seemingly accidentally revealed the title:

Sorry for no announcements, but I love you guys ??

The reason we say that this seems like an accident is because that’s how it’s set up. But honestly, we think Holland is leaning into the fact that fans know he accidentally spoils things all the time. He holds that iPad up and still for a few seconds, knowing very well that fans are going to see it and screenshot the hell out of it. Plus, scripts traditionally don’t have title pages like that anyway.

But we’re not going to complain about finally knowing the movie is called Spider-Man: Far From Home, if only because it means we can stop referring to it by the exhausting long-hand title of Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. And like we said at the start, we already know why the movie has this title.

Spider-Man is Going Abroad

Back in April, shortly before Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters, Kevin Feige was making the publicity rounds and fielded plenty of questions about the future of the MCU. One of those questions was about Spider-Man, and here’s what Feige had to say:

“We start filming early July. We film in London. We shot first film in Atlanta. And we shoot a lot of films in London but there’s another reason we’re shooting in London which is, yes, Spidey, of course, will spend some time in New York, but he’ll spend some time in other parts of the globe.”

So not only does Spider-Man: Far From Home play off the title of the first movie in the webslinger’s own franchise in the MCU, but it also describes exactly where we’ll find Spidey in the movie. We still don’t know if Spider-Man will actually be spending time in London or if he’ll be visiting other European locales while shooting on the soundstages of London, but we’re bound to find out sooner or later.

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters July 5, 2019.
