'Deadpool 2' Will Get An Extended Cut: Here Are The Deleted Scenes We Know About

Deadpool 2 only just arrived in theaters this past weekend, but director David Leitch is already teasing a director's cut.

Right now, the cut of Deadpool 2 that audiences can see in theaters clocks in at exactly 2 hours. But before that cut came together, there was an early version of the film that David Leitch put together in order to show producers. The initial cut of the movie came in at 2 hours and 12 minutes, and that's the version Leitch is working on restoring with Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

So what will the Deadpool 2 extended cut include? We know a couple of the scenes that will make it back into the movie, and it sounds like there will be plenty of new jokes for fans to soak up as well.

CinemaBlend recently sat down for an interview with David Leitch where he announced that a Deadpool 2 extended cut was in the works. Here's what Leitch had to say:

"There's an extended cut. And I think that they may want to spin that out as a special thing, but right now I'm sort of... we're taking our time, and it's going back to the 'director cut,' and then sort of collaborating with Ryan [Reynolds], Rhett [Reese], and Paul [Wernick], and making sure we're all getting all the jokes we want – to have it be fun and our sort of fun collaboration."

As of now, it's not clear whether this Deadpool 2 extended cut will get released in theaters or if it's merely destined for a home video release. Surely 20th Century Fox could make some extra cash by releasing a Deadpool 2 extended cut in theaters, perhaps towards the end of the summer. But the cost to put a new cut back in theaters might be more than the box office return they'd get from it.

No matter what kind of release the Deadpool 2 extended cut gets, it sounds like we'll get some good gags. David Leitch says the 12 minutes that were cut from the movie were mostly "nips and tucks" here and there, but there are at least two sequences that will add some meat to the runtime and give fans some new material to enjoy.

Deadpool's Suicide Montage

One of the sequences that will make the Deadpool 2 extended cut is a deleted scene that writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recently described in a Reddit AMA. It's a bit dark, but it has the potential to be pretty funny:

"One thing we really wanted to see (and actually shot!) was a Deadpool suicide montage, where DP is trying to kill himself over and over in increasingly violent ways (drinking Drano, jumping into a polar bear enclosure), etc. You should be able to see it on the DVD!"

Those who have seen Deadpool 2 know that we only see one method of suicide following the death of his girlfriend Vanessa. That's Deadpool flicking a cigarette into a barrel of gasoline and blowing up his body into several pieces. But getting a montage of attempted suicides like it could be darkly amusing.

Leitch confirmed that montage will make it into the Deadpool 2 extended cut, and hopefully that montage includes some kind of Groundhog Day reference for good measure. But that's not the only scene that Leitch confirmed for the director's cut.

Deadpool Ruined the Soap

Fans who have seen Deadpool 2 might remember the Merc with a Mouth making some kind of joke about ejaculating into a soap dispenser. This prompts Colossus to smell his hands in a concerned manner. It's a solid gag on its own, but apparently there's another scene that makes it even better. Reese explained the additional material that made that gave that joke a little more punch:

"We had a scene in the kitchen in the X-Mansion, which is one of our favorites... You see Deadpool say 'ejaculate into a soap dispenser a hero,' and Colossus [smells his fingers]. There's an earlier scene where they're in the kitchen and Colossus is trying to get the soap dispenser to work. And he's like, 'This won't work.' And Deadpool's like, 'Just give it a few extra pumps. I just filled it.'"

Of course we know exactly what he filled it with. Classic Deadpool.  The kitchen scene sounds like it has several jokes that will be restored in the Deadpool 2 extended cut. Reese and Wernick elaborated:

Reese: "The kitchen scene was fun. He's labeling stuff in the refrigerator as he was told to do. And so he's putting Velcro labels on, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead is not buying his go-straight routine. She's like, 'I see through you, you're still full of shit.' It was fun."

Wernick: "It was just playing around with this idea that Deadpool is just this little kid. He's just a little kid at heart as we all are."

More Domino and Alternate Jokes

That's all for the specific scenes we know will be included on the Deadpool 2 extended cut, but Leitch says there will be other little jokes added here and there, not to mention more of a fan-favorite new character:

"There's some extra Domino stuff. There's a lot of fun little bits, and then a lot of alts! We're looking for every place we can put an alt."

When it comes to Deadpool 2, there were a bunch of alternate jokes and takes done during production so that director David Leitch and the film's editors Craig Alpert, Michael McCusker, Elísabet Ronaldsdóttir and Dirk Westerelt had plenty of material to work with. So there are likely plenty of new jokes that can be inserted into the movie.

In fact, I wonder if there's a chance that Deadpool 2 has so much alternate material that they could make a cut of the movie that has almost entirely new jokes. Anchorman released an alternate cut of the movie on home video with almost entirely new jokes. That might be a little harder with a big budget comic book movie, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

For now, you can see Deadpool 2 in theaters everywhere.
