Avengers Endgame - Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner

Voiceover from Black Widow recaps what we’ve already known for awhile now. Thanos made good on his word to get rid of half of the life in the universe. Bruce Banner looks at the profiles of those missing allies who still haven’t turned up. Scott Lang is the most prominent one, and his profile says missing, so he’s not presumed to be dead. The same is said for Shuri, who is also labeled as missing, though we know she’s alive somewhere. Shuri’s picture changes to Peter Parker, also labeled as missing, since no one on Earth seems to know what happened on Titan.

Avengers Endgame

Another shot inside Avengers headquarters shows an empty garage or hangar. This feels like an establishing shot, perhaps from early on in the movie, before we focus on the Avengers in the aftermath of the snap heard round the world.

Avengers Endgame - Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Thor is clearly brooding about what just happened. He’s not even in his usual Asgardian armor. He’s slumming it in Earth clothes, looking like he just got off a shift at some kind of logging facility.

Avengers Endgame - Karen Gillan as Nebula

Remember when I said Tony Stark may not be alone? Well, Nebula was the only other person left alive on Titan after the snap, and it looks like she’s on board the Guardians’ ship with Tony.

Avengers Endgame

Nebula is certainly attempting to offer comfort to someone on that ship, and it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that it’s Tony, especially after what just happened on Titan.

Avengers Endgame - Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye

Here’s the moment that a lot of Avengers fans have been waiting for. After wondering for the entirety of Avengers: Infinity War just where the hell Hawkeye was, we finally have an answer. He’s been overseas (that’s Japanese writing in the background), having taken on his Ronin persona.

Avengers Endgame - Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye

There’s Jeremy Renner’s beautiful face! Though at this point, it looks like he’s seen better days. Will we find out what Hawkeye has been through? Did his family disappear after the snap? It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that we hear Cap say “We lost friends, we lost family, we lost a part of ourselves” just as the shot of Hawkeye appears on screen. I suppose that would be enough to drive someone to become a rogue assassin again. That’s another piece of this puzzle which makes us wonder how much time has passed on Earth after the snap.

Avengers Endgame

The only real hint we get of what’s happening in Avengers: Endgame besides recovery from the snap of Thanos comes from an exchange between Captain America and Black Widow. Voiceover from Cap says, “This is the fight of our lives,” and he still looks to his old love Peggy Carter for hope. And Black Widow reassures him, “This is gonna work, Steve.” Whatever this is, we don’t know just yet. But even Captain America’s confidence in this mystery plan sounds shaken when he says, “I don’t know what I’m gonna do if it doesn’t.”

Avengers Endgame

There’s that Avengers: Endgame title that fans have been waiting so long to see, even though Anthony & Joe Russo said that it wasn’t the title months ago. If you’re looking for hope that our heroes will win the day (and why wouldn’t they?), notice that the fractured Avengers logo is being pieced back together.

Avengers Endgame - Paul Rudd as Ant-Man

And look who just might be responsible for helping the Avengers out of this serious pickle! It’s Scott Lang, who shows up at the front gate of Avengers headquarters. How did he get back out of the quantum realm? Clearly he has something he needs to talk to the Avengers about, so whatever he learned or whatever he did to get out of the quantum realm likely holds the key to defeating Thanos and undoing what he did.

Honestly, this is the perfect teaser trailer for Avengers: Endgame. It doesn’t rely on any action shots, and it doesn’t give away anything about the story at all. Will the entire marketing campaign for the sequel be like this? Will any of the trailers give away big moments? Or will fans be kept largely in the dark for the next four and a half months?

Avengers: Endgame arrives on April 26, 2019.
