New 'Alien: Covenant' Photo Gives A First Look At Danny McBride On The Bridge

Production on Alien: Covenant is happening right now, and so far we've gotten a couple of behind-the-scenes sneak peeks showing Katherine Waterston on the titular ship, as well as the return of Michael Fassbender as the android David. Now we get a first look at one of the other new cast members who may be the most intriguing part of the talent roster.

Danny McBride is part of the Covenant crew, and while we don't know his character's name just yet, a new photo from the set shows him getting direction from Ridley Scott while on the bridge of the ship that will likely have plenty of blood splattered all over it before the film is over. See the new Alien Covenant photo after the jump.

Aside from showing Danny McBride on set for the first time, the photo continues to show off the impressive practical set of the Covenant ship. The aesthetic of the ship is inspired by the same ship from the original 1979 film, which means the technology isn't quite as advanced as it might look in other contemporary sci-fi movies. It's a nice touch for the second part of a prequel trilogy that will eventually lead up to Ridley Scott's original Alien.

Just recently we heard about a huge rumor that might make for a more direct link to Alien than anyone had previously anticipated. We won't give away that detail here, but if you want to read about it yourself, just check out our previous story over here.

Otherwise, news last night arrived indicating that Prometheus star Noomi Rapace would indeed be returning in Alien: Covenant. Considering the film is supposed to follow a whole new crew, one would assume that a lot of time has passed since the events of Prometheus, so maybe we'll see Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw in some sort of flashback that fills in the gaps as opposed to actually encountering the new team. There was skepticism that her character would even be involved, so her involvement may not be all that integral to the new story.

The rest of the Alien: Covenant cast includes Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Jussie Smolett (Empire), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), and Billy Crudup (Watchmen). Hopefully we'll get to see set photos of them in Alien: Covenant as production continues.

Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott's 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant arrives on August 4, 2017.
