Horror Noire: Release Date, Cast, And More

The book "Horror Noire: Blacks in American Horror Films from the 1890s to Present" from Dr. Robin R. Means Coleman is required reading for anyone with an interest in the history of horror films. Inspired by the book, Shudder first released a documentary of the same name and now presents a brand new scripted movie. From Shudder's official press release: "Six stories, one film. Experience the next chapter of Black horror."

The film debuts right before Halloween, but here's everything you need to know and more before the premiere of "Horror Noire."

Horror Noire Release Date and Where You Can Watch It

"Horror Noire" will premiere on the Shudder streaming service on October 28, 2021. The film will join Shudder's critically acclaimed 2019 documentary, "Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror."

What is Horror Noire About?

A showcase of Black horror from Black directors and screenwriters, "Horror Noire" tells six different stories presented as one two-hour film. Official synopses of each segment have yet to be revealed, but the series is composed of both original and adapted works.

Horror Noire Directors, Writers, and More

"The Lake" was penned by writing duo Steven Barnes and Tananarive Due. "Daddy" was written by Victor LaValle. "Brand of Evil" was written by Ezra C. Daniels. "Sundown" was written by Al Letson. "Bride Before You" was written by Shernold Edwards. "Fugue State was written by Barnes and Due.

The series is produced by Swirl Films with executive producers Shelby Stone and Derek Dudley from ID8 Multimedia, in addition to Swirl Films founder Eric Tomosunas and Ron Robinson. Dr. Robin R. Means Coleman served as a consultant on the film, as well as the production team of the documentary "Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror," Ashlee Blackwell, Phil Nobile Jr., and Kelly Ryan.

Lesley-Ann Brandt ("Spartacus: Blood and Sand," "Lucifer") and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre ("David Makes Man," "Magic Camp") will appear in "The Lake," Luke James (The Chi," "Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.") will appear in "Daddy," and Brandon Mychal Smith ("Get On Up," "You're the Worst," "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles") is in "Brand of Evil."

Erica Ash ("Survivor's Remorse," "A Black Lady Sketch Show"), Peter Stormare ("American Gods," "Fargo"), Tone Bell ("Fam," "American Soul"), and Lavell Crawford ("Breaking Bad," "Better Call Saul") appear in "Sundown." Lenora Crichlow ("Sugar Rush," "Being Human") and Sean Patrick Thomas ("Save the Last Dance," "The Curse of La Llorona") will appear in "Bride Before You." Lesley-Ann Barrett, Rachel True ("The Craft," "Half and Half") and the legendary "Candyman" himself, Tony Todd, will appear in "Fugue State."

Rachel True and Tony Todd were also featured in the 2019 documentary of the same name.
