New 'Fantastic Beasts' Clips: Newt Scamander Gets Interrogated, Asks A Goblin For Help
We're just a few days away from seeing if Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them lives up to the rather positive reviews that surfaced over the weekend. With that in mind, Warner Bros. Pictures is making one last push to drum up interest in the Harry Potter spin-off, though we're pretty sure there's already plenty of interest from the wizarding world fans out there.
Two new Fantastic Beasts clips have been released online by the studio, and they both offer up some interesting new details about our lead character, magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), as well as one of the creatures in his possession. Plus, we get to see Mr. Scamander engage with Colin Farrell's character Percival Graves, an Auror for MACUSA's Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and Ron Perlman as a goblin that is basically a 1920s gangster.

The interrogation clip gives us a much better idea of why Newt Scamander is such a person of interest to the MACUSA Department of Magical Law Enforcement. It appears many of those who follow the dark wizard Grindelwald are trying to expose the magical community in order to incite a war between wizards and No-Majs (the American version of Muggles). A case of magical creatures on the loose in New York City could certainly do that.
Meanwhile, the clip of Newt Scamander trying to get help in a speakeasy is one of my favorite things I've seen from the movie so far. Seeing the wizarding world in the 1920s fascinates me to no end, and seeing Ron Perlman's goblin character being very similar to some of the gangster characters we've seen in the likes of The Godfather really has me excited to see how this world is different from the contemporary wizarding world we got used to in the Harry Potter franchise.
There are growing dangers in the wizarding world of 1926 New York. Something mysterious is leaving a path of destruction in the streets, threatening to expose the wizarding community to the Second Salemers, a fanatical faction of No-Majs bent on eradicating them. And the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, after wreaking havoc in Europe, has slipped away and is now nowhere to be found.
Unaware of the rising tensions, Newt Scamander arrives in the city nearing the end of a global excursion to research and rescue magical creatures, some of which are safeguarded in the hidden dimensions of his deceptively nondescript leather case. But potential disaster strikes when unsuspecting No-Maj Jacob Kowalski inadvertently lets some of Newt's beasts loose in a city already on edge—a serious breach of the Statute of Secrecy that former Auror Tina Goldstein jumps on, seeing her chance to regain her post. However, things take an ominous turn when Percival Graves, the enigmatic Director of Magical Security at the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), casts his suspicions on both Newt and Tina.
Now allied, Newt and Tina, together with Tina's sister, Queenie, and their new No-Maj friend, Jacob, form a band of unlikely heroes, who must recover Newt's missing beasts before they come to harm. But the stakes are higher than these four outsiders—now branded fugitives—ever imagined, as their mission puts them on a collision course with dark forces that could push the wizarding and No-Maj worlds to the brink of war.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them arrives on November 18.
