'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Deleted Scene Would Have Made Chewbacca Fans Cheer

It didn't take long for Disney and Lucasfilm to double dip on the home video release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This fall brings a 3D collector's edition Blu-ray release that not only allows you to see the movie in 3D, but will also have commentary on the film from director J.J. Abrams, some new featurettes, and even deleted scenes. The content of one of those deleted scenes has just been revealed, and you'll see that it would have given Chewbacca fans something to cheer about.

As you can see, the scene takes place in Maz Kanata's castle in the cantina where Han Solo, Rey and Finn meet with the mysterious orange-skinned fortune teller of sorts. Rey ends up running into Unkar Plutt, the ugly, rotund alien played by Simon Pegg who was last seen screaming "That's mine!" into the sky after Rey and Finn made off with the Millennium Falcon. Apparently upset that his ship has been taken, he's likely drinking his sorrows away at the cantina.
Anyway, Unkar gives Rey a hard time and then makes the mistake of taunting Chewbacca by calling him "half a Wookiee." That line in itself raises some questions as to whether Chewbacca isn't a full Wookiee, but I think that's just him trying to insult Chewie in the same way that someone might say, "You're not half the man you think you are," or something like that.
Sadly, the above scene ends there and you won't be able to watch the full scene until the collector's edition Blu-ray arrives next month. We don't want to spoil it for you if you'd rather watch it yourself later, but if you really want to know what happens next, you can scroll after the image below to find out.
After Unkar Plutt decides to stand up to Chewbacca, the Wookiee does exactly what Han Solo warned C-3PO about back when he was playing Dejarik with him in the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars: A New Hope. That's right, Chewbacca, just rips Unkar Plutt's arms out of their sockets. One of them even lands on a nearby gambling table, much to the chagrin of Wollivan (the character played by Warwick Davis).
It's easy to see why this scene was deleted. It feels a little distracting considering everything else that happens in the cantina that made the final cut. Plus, despite the fact that Unkar Plutt is a huge jerk, pulling his arms out of his sockets feels a bit extreme. After all, it's not like Plutt stole the Falcon from Han Solo personally. As Rey explained before, Plutt stole it from the Irving Boys, who stole it from Ducain, and that's who stole it from Han and Chewie. So many Ducain needs his arms ripped off, wherever he is.
Still, seeing Chewbacca finally rip off someone's arms would have been fun for fans to see in theaters the first time they saw The Force Awakens on the big screen. But now you'll just have to wait to see it happen on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3D Collector's Editions arriving on November 15.
