How Robert Pattinson Feels About Steven Soderbergh Taking Over The Batman 2 Filming
"The Batman: Part II" star Robert Pattinson has spoken about Steven Soderbergh stepping in to finish the film following Matt Reeves' departure. Production on "The Batman: Part II" was put on hold in early October 2026 as Reeves stepped away to deal with a personal matter. On October 15, 2026, it was announced that Soderbergh would help finish filming on the long-awaited superhero sequel, and for Pattinson, it was an act of pure generosity on the director's part.
Speaking to GamesRadar+, the actor said, "I am so happy [Soderbergh has] come on to help Matt. It's incredibly generous of him — and he's doing it in the loveliest way. It's completely selfless." The actor, who only just appeared in Lance Oppenheim's "Primetime" for A24, went on to confirm that filming on "The Batman: Part II" is almost complete. "I think Matt had put so much work into the script, and we're almost done," he continued. "So, for someone to come in and say, 'I just want to help Matt do it; I want to do it in conjunction with him and just get it to the edit.' And to have someone who's as talented as Steven doing it is great."
A studio rep previously confirmed (via Variety) that production on "The Batman: Part II" had been "temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter," adding, "Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon." At the time, there was no confirmation as to whether the movie's release date would need to move or when filming might resume. With Soderbergh stepping in, it seems as though delays could be kept to a minimum, though there's still no official update in that regard.
Robert Pattinson says filming on The Batman: Part II will resume shortly
Back in 2024, "The Batman: Part II" release was delayed by a year as Warner Bros. and DC Studios worked out their fledgling superhero cinematic universe rebrand. With Matt Reeves stepping away from filming, it seemed as though more delays were in the offing. But not only has Steven Soderbergh arrived to help get the film over the line, it seems production on the movie is nearing completion. Asked by GamesRadar+ when filming will resume on the movie, Pattinson said, "I think they're in production already, and I'm starting in a couple of days."
That bodes well for "The Batman: Part II" sticking to its February 18, 2028 release date, though it remains unclear whether Reeves will be able to return promptly for post-production. The director previously posted on X/Twitter, clarifying that he was still very much involved with the project regardless. "Just to be clear, I am not leaving 'The Batman Part II,'" he wrote. "I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes."
Meanwhile, Soderbergh praised Reeves work on the previous film, 2022's "The Batman," (via Variety), describing it as "stunning [...] intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent." The "Ocean's 11" director clarified that he was coming onboard to "generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what's already been shot." But it remains unclear whether he'll similarly be involved in the post-production process. For now, we await more updates from Warner Bros. and Reeves.
