Baloo from "The Jungle Book." Genie from "Aladdin." Timon and Pumbaa from "The Lion King." Kronk in "The Emperor's New Groove." Olaf in "Frozen." Disney's history is filled with supporting characters who are so delightful that they end up stealing the spotlight from the movie's main characters. Sometimes they might even run away with the whole movie. Disney's "Hexed" is about to introduce another such character who demands our attention, and I'm predicting, after seeing roughly 30 minutes of "Hexed" at Disney Animation Studios during an early press day for the movie, that they will likely come out as a fan favorite on the other side.

Meet Beef Roger Crummchuk

When we meet Beef Roger Crummchuk, he's living in a camper that has a second story on top of it that looks like he just hastily stacked a house right on the roof. It looks jagged, rundown, and it's in the middle of a dark forest. This is not the kind of place you live in if you want to have visitors.

That's why, when Billie shows up on his doorstep looking for some help saving her mother (she's been locked up by Queen Celeste and the Hexe authorities after venturing in the magical world to track down Billie), he's not remotely interested in helping.

Actually, she comes crashing through his door with her new companion, a sentient cauldron that she calls Bucket. That's why he tells both of them, with a toothy Southern drawl as only Goggins can deliver, "You got until the count of 'get out' to get out!"

Even when Billie tries to be polite by calling him Mr. Crummchuk, he's still not interested, and he quips, "My mama was Mr. Crummchuk," and he would rather just be called Beef Roger, or just Beef, not unlike how The Dude offers his own nickname variations in "The Big Lebowski." He's even more annoyed when Bucket starts clanging around his home, breaking his precious porcelain cat figurines. Since Bucket was brought to life by Billie, she apologizes by noting, "In his defense, he was born today," to which Beef threatens, "And he's gonna die today."

In Hexed, Beef becomes Billie's grumpy Yoda

But don't call Beef a pet, because he's a familiar. In fact, he used to be Alice's familiar, which is actually an equal partner to a witch or wizard, but as the cat explains, "[Y]our mama forgot when she skedaddled out a hex, sticking me here."

Of course, Billie somehow gets Beef to help her, and they hit the road. Beef can magically pack up his multi-story house into his camper. But he can't seem to magically teach Billie how to be a better witch, because, as the directors Jason Hand and Fawn Veerasunthorn said during the press day, "Beef is a tough love teacher, and Billie is a terrible student."

Who doesn't love a grumpy mentor with a troublesome mentee? Plus, with Goggins behind the voice, his signature delivery makes Beef the most entertaining character, at least based on what I've seen so far. You can get a taste of even more of his attitude in the latest "Hexed" trailer, when Billie accidentally sets his microwave free while they're driving. The appliance leaps out the trailer window before getting smashed by another vehicle, and Beef matter of factly says, "That microwave had a family."

The filmmakers and artists behind Beef Roger Crummchuk were so excited to talk about the character, that we can only assume we'll love him even more when we see the full movie. We'll find out when "Hexed" arrives in theaters on November 25, 2026.
