Juno Temple Is A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing In The Fargo Season 5 Trailer

Trouble is coming to Minnesota and North Dakota all over again — and, this time, it's in the deceptively pint-sized form of Juno Temple's Dorothy "Dot" Lyon. To this point, FX's Emmy-winning anthology series "Fargo" has never set the action as recently as season 5, which will take place in 2019 and feature one of its most fascinating storylines yet. The key to the show's success thus far, of course, has been its willingness to shake up its own formula with each and every installment. In the span of five seasons, it has taken viewers from the early aughts in its debut season to 1979 in season 2 to, most surprisingly, a battle between two crime syndicates in the 1950s in season 4. Despite originally taking inspiration from the Coen brothers' 1996 film, "Fargo" has forged its own identity as a pitch-dark comedy crime drama, led by series creator Noah Hawley. Season 5, to say the absolute least, comes with quite a lot of expectations.

Based on the new trailer footage, which FX just debuted, fans aren't likely to be disappointed. Boasting a top-notch cast starring Temple as the season's main agent of chaos, Jon Hamm as the relentless sheriff hot on her tail, the great Jennifer Jason Leigh as her formidable mother-in-law, and a killer cast of supporting character actors, the network is clearly sparing no expense. Check out all the snowbound mayhem for yourself above!

Fargo returns with its fifth season

A wolf in sheep's clothing, indeed. Dorothy Lyon is clearly hiding a major secret from her family and the cops alike — one that her poor, genial, and downright normal husband Wayne (David Rysdahl) has absolutely no idea about. It's a classic, tension-laden "Fargo" premise that hints at a much wider series of calamities to come, as we see in the trailer footage that establishes all the main players and competing loyalties in the mix of things. FX's official synopsis for the season sets the stage: "After an unexpected series of events lands Dorothy 'Dot' Lyon (Juno Temple) in hot water with the authorities, this seemingly typical Midwestern housewife is suddenly plunged back into a life she thought she had left behind."

Created by Noah Hawley (who also serves as showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer), "Fargo" season 5 is set to address the following questions: "When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn't yours?" Dot's tenuous grasp of reality makes up the bulk of the conflict (and laughs) in the trailer, though with plenty of the spotlight devoted to the supporting cast rounding out the ensemble. In addition to Temple as Dot and Jon Hamm as Sheriff Roy Tillman, there's his "loyal but feckless son" Gator (Joe Keery), the mysterious Ole Munch (Sam Spruell), Jennifer Jason Leigh as the wealthy and powerful debt collection agency CEO Lorraine Lyon, Minnesota Police Deputy Indira Olmstead (Richa Moorjani), North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr (Lamorne Morris), and more.

"Fargo" will make its grand return when season 5 premieres on FX (and Hulu) on November 21, 2023.
