Director Damien Leone Confirms Our Main Character For The Rest Of The Terrifier Series

Damien Leone's first "Terrifier" film may have been a nasty, brutal ode to eighties slasher movies, but "Terrifier 2" took the exploitation sensibilities of its predecessor and amped up the extremities to the point of a bona fide horror epic. Clocking a runtime of over two hours, an unusually long stay for a slasher film, "Terrifier 2" presents a low-budget horror adventure fit for the blockbuster-inundated audiences of today. The most valuable contribution Leone's sequel makes to what is panning out to be at least a trilogy is the introduction of a hero with a screen presence that rivals the murderously unstoppable Art the Clown. Sienna Shaw, played by Lauren LaVera, is perhaps the ultimate final girl, complete with supernatural powers that make her the official protagonist of the series moving forward.

Sienna first appears in "Terrifier 2" as an ordinary teenager celebrating Halloween with a homemade Valkyrie-esque costume, her angelic warrior garb hinting at her eventual role. Although Art kills her, she returns from the dead in Christ-like fashion to wreak righteous vengeance on her arch nemesis. The reasons behind her resurrection are never fully explained, but it sounds like that's something Leone plans on fleshing out further in the threequel.

Leone has called Sienna his favorite part of "Terrifier 2," a character that balances out Art's sadism with a genuinely admirable heroic streak. She's essential for a film so bleak and unrelenting in its violence and cruelty, a character that the audience can cheer for. Those aspects make her a perfect candidate to lead the "Terrifier" series as Leone moves forward with plans for additional sequels. He told Insider:

"I mean, there's blatant religious mythic imagery, clear as day. There is a heaven and hell thing going on. And the clown is this resurrected demon and Sienna is slowly becoming aware that she's sort of this Old Testament angel ready to do battle and going through that metamorphosis. That discovery was really what was the most exciting thing to me in this movie."

LaVera shares a similar enthusiasm for Sienna as Leone does. The director expressed in the Blu-ray commentary that "She was just absolutely in love with this character — we both were — and we worked so hard in fleshing her out and making her a very relatable, interesting hero." She'll only get more growth and backstory from here on out, too. Leone is unsure how long the "Terrifier" series will go on, but he is certain that "We will be following her journey to the end of this franchise."
