Though it was designed to be the "zombie movie that never ends," "The Walking Dead" has finally concluded after eleven seasons, but never fear. The saga of your favorite crossbow-wielding, squirrel-eating character will continue in the new six-episode spin-off, "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon."
Actor, motorcycle enthusiast, and all-around Boondock saint Norman Reedus — who has doubled as host of the AMC travel series "Ride with Norman Reedus" — will reprise his role as Daryl, so there's no need to worry about this being some kind of "Young Sheldon" or "Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" situation.
Like his older brother, the late Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker), Daryl is a character who never existed in the original "Walking Dead" comic book series, but he has been with the TV franchise since the very beginning. His first appearance was in a season 1 episode of "The Walking Dead" called "Tell It to the Frogs," and he's been known to live out in the woods, with only the frogs and what squirrels he hasn't eaten as his friends.

"The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" is set to premiere sometime in 2023. Beyond that, no official release date has been announced yet, but this is the first fall in over a decade where there hasn't been a new episode — if not a whole new season — of the main "Walking Dead" show to air on AMC. So, it's possible that the network may be keeping Daryl as an ace up its sleeve for the fall of 2023.
AMC and AMC+ are the home for all things "Walking Dead," and that will continue with "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon." You can also stream previous spin-offs like "The Walking Dead: The World Beyond" and "Tales of the Walking Dead" on AMC+, though at the time of writing, "Fear the Walking Dead" is over on Hulu.

What The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will be about
"The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" was originally supposed to be a Daryl and Carol spin-off, but Melissa McBride, who plays Carol, exited the project after "relocating to Europe became logistically untenable" for her, as /Film previously reported.
Now a solo adventure for Daryl, the synopsis for the series (via AMC) is as follows: "In 'The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,' Daryl (Norman Reedus) washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan."
Since "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" takes place after the events of "The Walking Dead," it shouldn't be a spoiler to say that Daryl was last seen riding out in search of answers for why the zombie apocalypse started and what happened to his old friends Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurai).
Based on the description above, it sounds like it will be okay if you stopped keeping up with "The Walking Dead" and missed some of what happened to Daryl at the end, since he himself will be trying to piece together how he ended up leaving the backwoods of Georgia (where the series was filmed) and washing ashore in France in this new solo series.

"The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" is created by previous "Walking Dead" bosses Angela Kang and Scott M. Gimple, who will co-executive produce the series, with David Zabel serving as showrunner.
In addition to Norman Reedus as Daryl, "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" stars Clémence Poésy and Adam Nagaitis. Poésy costarred in the Apple TV+ series "The Essex Serpent" in 2022 and was last seen on the big screen delivering exposition about "the detritus of a coming war" and how to catch bullets in Christopher Nolan's "Tenet." Nagaitis, meanwhile, gave a memorable turn as the villainous Hickey in AMC's "The Terror" and as a firefighter who was one of the first responders to the nuclear disaster scene in HBO's "Chernobyl."
In "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon," Poésy's character, Isabelle, is described (via Variety) as "a member of a progressive religious group who joins forces with Daryl on a journey across France and finds herself confronting her dark past in Paris." Nagaitis plays Quinn, a "displaced Brit who has become powerful in post-apocalyptic Paris as a black marketeer and the owner of the Demimonde, a sexy underground nightclub."
Deadline also reports that a number of local French actors, including Anne Charrier, Eriq Ebouaney, Laika Blanc Francard, Romain Levi, and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi (in his TV acting debut), have joined the cast of "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" as series regulars.
