Here's How You Can Watch Puss In Boots: The Last Wish At Home

"Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" is one of the most inexplicable movies in recent memory. It's a sequel to a much-maligned movie that came out over a decade ago. It's subtitled "The Last Wish" and billed as the end of an era despite only being the second movie to star Antonio Banderas' swashbuckling kitty. Its star-studded cast includes the likes of not only Banderas, but also Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, John Mulaney, Harvey Guillén, and Salma Hayek Pinault.

The movie has also gained a tremendous amount of acclaim since its release in theaters in December, picking up an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film and earning glowing reviews, including one for IGN in which /Film writer Rafael Motamayor compared it favorably to The X-Men franchise high point "Logan," a comparison that caught on in a big way throughout the movie's theatrical run. /Film's own review, from Josh Spiegel, was somewhat less glowing, but still commends the film for going darker with its plot than one might expect from a DreamWorks Animation family movie.

Plenty of people showed up for "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" in theaters, but if you missed the movie about an animated cat that somehow inspired, among so many other wild comparisons, a double feature with "Yojimbo" at a renowned Los Angeles theater, you're probably wondering where you can finally figure out what all the fuss is about.

Puss in Boots will land on Peacock soon

Luckily, "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" hits streaming soon, and is already available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4k. If you're not into physical media or prefer to try before you buy, the movie will be playing exclusively on Peacock beginning on March 10, 2023. This isn't a surprise, as Peacock is the main streaming home of other Dreamworks blockbusters, including the Far Far Away films that started it all, "Shrek" and "Shrek 2." The streamer also offers some Puss in Boots-centric shorts.

If you're keen to watch the new film but haven't tried Peacock yet, it's worth noting that it's one of the more cost-effective streamers out there. Plans start at $4.99 a month, with a discount for an annual subscription. As someone who's taste-tested the seemingly endless smorgasbord of streamers available, Peacock is one of the few I don't mind paying for. I like it because it has great original shows like "Poker Face" and "Rutherford Falls" and a well-chosen horror selection with movies like "Sick," "M3GAN," and "Nope" in its pretty extensive lineup. "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" is definitely worth the five bucks it costs to subscribe for a month, but if the thought of joining another streamer gives you hives (I get it!), the film also has some great home video options already at your fingertips.

The Collector's Edition has a bevy of bonus features

"Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" is meeting all the hype with an expansive DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4k release. A collector's edition of the film is available at major retailers, with prices presently varying from $26.99 for the Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital copy combo, to nearly $35 for the 4k edition currently on Amazon. Walmart, meanwhile, has its own exclusive $29.99 version of the collector's edition that comes with Puss and Perrito (Guillen's adorable character) squeeze toys.

Regardless of which version you choose, the collector's edition comes packed with bonus features including a short called "The Trident" which explores one of Puss' eight deaths, a featurette called "Jack Horner's Line-O-Rama" which I imagine includes some great Mulaney ad-libs, deleted scenes, a lyric video, and a commentary featuring key members of the film's crew.

"Shrek" films have always gone above and beyond with their special features (who can forget Far Far Away Idol?), and the latest is no exception. The home release also includes some really cute features meant specifically for kiddos, including one that teaches viewers how to draw the characters from the film, another that guides you through making a "paper Perrito" sidekick, and a third that's just called "Kitty Cam." Yes, it's a livestream-like feature of kittens frolicking. Adorable!

If you hate Peacock and hate watching kittens have fun, first of all, why? Secondly, there's still an option for you! As of February, "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" is also available digitally, meaning you can buy it on UHD on Youtube, add it to your Amazon catalog, or get it anywhere else that digital copies are sold for $19.99.

The movie hits Peacock on March 10, 2023, while it's already available on digital and home video.
