Manchester by the Sea VFX

Manchester by the Sea was nominated for six Oscars and took home two on Sunday night: Best Original Screenplay for Kenneth Lonergan and Best Actor for Casey Affleck. But there’s one category in which it was completely overlooked, perhaps because it was too good. A behind-the-scenes reel highlights the film’s unbelievable visual effects — and by unbelievable, I mean literally unbelievable. Because this isn’t an actual Manchester by the Sea VFX reel, but a Funny or Die video. Watch it below.  Read More »

2017 Oscars Honest Trailer

The Oscars will be handed out this coming Sunday to honor some of the best achievements in film from the year 2016. Of course, the Oscars aren’t necessarily always an indication of the absolute best movies from the preceding year, if only because there’s a lot of politics and money involved, making it impossible for some deserving films to get nominated. And to make sure we don’t forget that the crop of Best Picture nominees this year are not safe from criticism, Honest Trailers has decided to poke fun at every single one of them.

2017 BAFTA Winners - La La Land

Just in case you thought La La Land was just an obsession of American critics and film industry insiders, the British equivalent of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just handed out the BAFTAs (which are basically the Oscars across the pond), and the musical from director Damien Chazelle took home plenty of awards with nary a competitor coming close to rivaling it.

La La Land took home several big awards, including Best Film and Best Director, and it snagged a few other trophies too. Lion also had a decent showing, while the rest of the awards had their love spread out over a great variety of films. Get the full list of 2017 BAFTA winners after the jump. Read More »

2017 pga nominations

One of the big surprises of this awards season so far has been Deadpool‘s emergence as the scrappy little superhero movie that could. While its Golden Globe nomination wasn’t entirely unexpected, its Writers Guild nomination raised a few eyebrows. And now the Merc’s managed to wrangle himself a Producers Guild nomination as well.

Otherwise, it’s business as usual for the PGA nominations, which also went to favorites like La La Land and Moonlight. See the full list of 2017 PGA nominations below.  Read More »

Jack's top 10 films of the year

At times, 2016 was an emotionally exhausting year at the movies. We saw plenty of tearjerkers and great, empathetic filmmaking over the past 12 months. 2016 was a rare time where I could often sense crowds were mostly on the same page. Sitting in a huge audience, and feeling that nearly everyone else is captivated by the same story, is a great experience, one that doesn’t happen frequently — but I think it was something I was lucky enough to see occur more than a few times in 2016, thanks to some emotional movies.
