The Shape of Water - 2018 BAFTA Nominations

After the Golden Globes were handed out last weekend, it’s time for the more significant, meaningful awards to take the spotlight. Today we have the 2018 BAFTA nominations, the equivalent of the Academy Awards for our friends in the United Kingdom.

The Shape of Water led the pack by racking up 12 nominations, including being one of five nominees for Best Film. Joining Guillermo del Toro‘s masterpiece were also Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Darkest Hour, both landing nine nominations each. However, not all the awards favorites were shown love with Steven Spielberg’s The Post left out in the wind with zero nominations.

TWC had hoped to sell-off Paddington 2 as their company continues to sink lower and lower into oblivion following the ousting of Harvey Weinstein. Co-writer/director Paul King (The Mighty Boosh) is returning for the Paddington sequel. Producer David Heyman (GravityHarry Potter) and financier-distributor StudioCanal were intent on bringing King back for a follow-up film, after the marvelous work he did with the first Paddington. The adaptation was a hit with critics and foreign audiences, and King deserves plenty of credit for successfully bringing Michael Bond’s lovable talking bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) to the big screen.
