'Trust' Trailer: The Getty Family Story Gets Told On TV This Time

The fortunes and misfortunes of the Getty family were recently chronicled in the Ridley Scott film All the Money in the World. Now, the Gettys are jumping from the big screen to the small with the FX series Trust. Director Danny Boyle helms the show, which stars Donald Sutherland as greedy oil tycoon J. Paul Getty. A new Trust trailer below lays out the lifestyles of the rich and famous Gettys.

If Ridley Scott's All the Money in the World didn't quench your thirst for stories about the Getty family, here comes the FX show Trust. The new anthology series hails from director Danny Boyle, and covers many of the same details of Scott's film. Like All the MoneyTrust revolves around the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, and the refusal of his rich-as-hell grandfather J. Paul Getty to pay the ransom. A new Trust trailer introduces us to the wild and crazy Getty family.

Scott's All the Money in the World was a crime drama that focused heavily on John Paul Getty III's kidnapping. Trust, in contrast, is using the kidnapping as a springboard to dive into the world of the Getty family as a whole. Of course, the real star of this trailer is Brendan Fraser, who has returned from actor exile sporting a huge cowboy hat. I, for one, am more than ready for the Fraserissance.

The show is planned as an anthology series, with each season focusing on a different era of the Getty family. In addition to Donald Sutherland and Cowboy Brendan Fraser, Trust stars Hilary Swank, Michael EsperAnna Chancellor, Norbert Leo Butz, Charlotte Riley and Luca Marinelli.

Trust premieres on March 25, 2018.

Inspired by actual events, Trust delves into the trials and triumphs of one of America's wealthiest and unhappiest families, the Gettys. Equal parts family history, dynastic saga and an examination of the corrosive power of money, Trust explores the complexities at the heart of every family, rich or poor.

Told over multiple seasons and spanning the twentieth century, the series begins in 1973 with the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III (Harris Dickinson), an heir to the Getty oil fortune, by the Italian mafia in Rome. His captors banked on a multi-million-dollar ransom. After all, what rich family wouldn't pay for the return of a loved one?

Paul's grandfather, J. Paul Getty Sr. (Donald Sutherland), an enigmatic oil tycoon and possibly the richest man in the world, is marooned in a Tudor mansion in the English countryside surrounded by a harem of mistresses and a pet lion. He's busy. Paul's father, J. Paul Getty Jr. (Michael Esper), is lost in a daze in London and refuses to answer the phone. Only Paul's mother, Gail Getty (Hilary Swank), is left to negotiate with the increasingly desperate kidnappers. Unfortunately, she's broke. Trust charts the teenage grandson's nightmare ordeal at the hands of kidnappers who cannot understand why nobody seems to want their captive back.
