Hollywood Interested In Making 'Moonfall', Fargo-Like Thriller Set On The Moon [Updated]

David Weil wrote a science fiction spec script titled Moonfall which has attracted a lot of interest around Hollywood this week. The Wrap is reporting that "several top filmmakers including producer Darren Aronofsky" are interested in making Moonfall, which has been described as a Fargo-like thriller set on the moon. The moon and a Fargo-like thriller? I'm in. Find out more about the potential Moonfall movie, after the jump.

We've heard conflicting reports about Aronofsky's interest in the project. But reguardless, its being reported the hot script is drawing interest from bunch of filmmakers and studios.

No other information is known about the plot for Moonfall, but the script is said to "feature a unique angle rather than the typical point of entry to a sci-fi story set in outer space." Hollywood has been trying to bring a moon colonizing movie to the big screen for some time. My favorite of the bunch was Zombieland/GI Joe 2 screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick's project Earth vs. The Moon, which was going to be an epic sci-fi war movie.

Aronofsky is not confirmed for the project as the script is still out to multiple studios and could very well end up elsewhere. But Jeff Sneider notes that Aronofsky "has had exploratory talks regarding the material" but has yet to commit to the project. If he comes on board, it may only be to produce — it is not known if he would direct the sci-fi film.

David Weil is an actor who had a few movie roles and a couple appearances on The Young and the Restless. He wrote a script titled Half Heard in the Stillness, which was voted to the 2013 Black List of Hollywood's most liked unproduced screenplays. That script is about a young man who struggles to reunite with his family after being rescued after living ten years in the basement of the child predator who abducted him.
