Jason Momoa Has Four-Picture Deal To Play Aquaman, Wants Zack Snyder To Direct

Jason Momoa has spent the past several months deflecting Aquaman talk, even though we've known since this summer that he'd won the role. But now that DC's finally made the official announcement he's finally free to spill the details on his splashy superhero gig.

During an appearance at the Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil, Momoa spoke quite a bit about his new role, including the length of his commitment, the character's "badass" nature, and his choice of director. Hit the jump to read the Jason Momoa Aquaman contract details and more.

As reported by DCU Movie Page, Momoa admitted he'd been cast as Aquaman long ago.

One of the more interesting details Momoa let slip at the event was the length of his DC contract.

Momoa apparently didn't specify which four films he'd star in, but we already have a pretty good idea idea. He's expected to make his debut as Aquaman in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, though that may just be a cameo that doesn't count toward his four-film deal. After that, he's likely to appear in both Justice League movies, due out in 2017 and 2019. In addition, Warner Bros. has already announced an Aquaman standalone for 2018.

Granted, those dates are pretty far in the future and things could change between now and then. But as long as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice makes money (and it will), there's no reason to doubt Warner Bros. will follow through on their DC plans for the next several years.

While four films in the next four years may sound like a lot, that's still much less extensive than the six- or nine-film contracts that most Marvel stars sign. Then again, even Marvel didn't start out demanding such lengthy commitments — which is how Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. was able to squeeze more money out of them after Phase One. If all goes well with Momoa's Aquaman, DC can probably look forward to renegotiating with Momoa in a few years.

However, that's a big if at this point. Aquaman isn't exactly a top-tier DC hero, though Momoa insists his casting is proof that this version of Aquaman will be a force to be reckoned with.

Momoa avoided discussing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in more specific detail, though he did have one adorable idea.

As for that Aquaman movie, Momoa already has a director in mind.

Unfortunately for Momoa, it's unlikely he'll get his wish. Snyder is already signed for both Justice Leagues, so he's booked solid for the next five years.

Oh well. In the meantime, look for Momoa in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, due out March 25, 2016.
