'Harry Potter And The Cursed Child' Photos: Meet The Granger-Weasleys

Yesterday brought us our first look at the Potter family of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, featuring Jamie Parker as Harry, Poppy Miller as Ginny, and Sam Clemmett as their rather unfortunately named son Albus. Today it's time to meet their best friends, the Granger-Weasleys.

Paul Thornley plays Ron Weasley and Noma Dumezweni is Hermione Granger, and Cherrelle Skeete plays their daughter Rose Granger-Weasley. Hardcore fans will recall that the Granger-Weasleys also have a son, Hugo, but either he doesn't exist in the play or he just didn't feel like showing up for the family portrait. You'd think Hermione — who looks very sharp in her navy blue jacket — would have talked her husband out of that clashing scarf and sweater combo, but on the other hand those bright colors are so perfectly Ron. And while Hermione looks every bit as deadly serious as the Potter family did in yesterday's stills, Ron, of course, has a big warm smile on his face. Judging by the matching expression on his daughter's face, she seems to have inherited his sense of humor.

Although Dumezweni seems at first like non-traditional casting for the role of Hermione, which was filled by white actress Emma Watson in the Harry Potter movies, Rowling has pointed out that her books never actually specified the character's race:

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child makes its premiere at the Palace Theater in London's West End on July 30. Previews begin later this month. Jack Thorne wrote the play from an original story he created with Rowling. John Tiffany is directing. Here's the synopsis:

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
